Is this game satisfactory without the Equipment Pack (£139!!). My grandson seemed to think he needed both packs.

The game is satisfactory without the Equipment Pack. If you wanted to buy an additional one then go for one of the other expansion packs like the Terrain Pack. These packs are becoming more and more sought after, hence the price of them. It is a great board game and teaches the children not only strategy but history too. My 7 year old can't get enough of the game!

Is this out of print now?

I don’t think so. It is often out of stock. Just google to see who has got it if Amazon hasn’t got it.

Is this the English version as the 2nd picture has the back of the box in French?

Hello our cards were in English but the rule book is in both French and English.

Is this game very similar to Risk?

It is a strategy game. But there the similarity end I think, there are many more complexities, options and rules, plus numerous expansions available for Memoir44. For instance I have 19 expansion, terrain and equipment packs for this game and have two more on order. You can play with more than one base set and on quite a number of different maps. So in short it’s a much more versatile and longer game than Risk.
