As usual with anything made by the German company WMF, these mills are of exceptionally high quality, evidenced by the ten year manufacturer guarantee that even covers the shipping cost! Clearly, WMF are confident in their product, and so am I with backup like that! I strongly suspect the negative reviewer was unfortunate to receive a unit damaged by excessively harsh handling in transit. Examine these for yourself and you'll see how solidly they're built!What first attracted me to them is the elegant design, penned by the award winning Metz und Kindler bureau. It combines clean lines and functionality with the warmth and natural texture of turned oak. The metal band is polished stainless steel.For me these mills are the perfect size - not too large to be in the way, and not too small to be fiddly to handle, or to run out of contents too quickly. I measure the capacity as being 50g of mixed peppercorns, or about the same as one of those refill bottles you buy in the supermarket. Just right in other words. Importantly, the grinding action is superb - the best I've encountered anywhere, including several expensive premium range Peugeot mills. It's easily adjustable for fineness too (note to negative reviewer who complained his was too loose - just tighten it up)Another consideration is the full availability of spares. German companies are great at this, and it distinguishes high quality, durable and maintainable consumer goods from cheap Chinese disposable tat. So if you break a glass jar or wear out the ceramic teeth (unlikely!) it's not a problem. WMF will sell you spares.In keeping with great design generally, these mills are timeless in appearance and fit equally well in a modern apartment or a period property like mine. When you buy a set for yourself you'll soon realise they are in fact exceptionally good value for money. Companies that insist on high standards of design and manufacturing need supporting - the cheap tat has already done for most of them. So please, make a stand. Invest in something worthwhile. I chose mine because they'll work better, save money in the long run and I get pleasure from owning beautiful objects of quality. In fact, I've just ordered a second set to hold my own custom seasoning mixes - it's much more fun to create your own, and they can be fine tuned to suit personal taste. I can see an expanding row of these developing on my kitchen shelf, and they work equally well for herbs and seeds.

In a nutshell beautiful. They are more compact in size than traditional mills, but surprisingly because the grinder is at the top and there's no shaft going through the mill they can hold at least as much salt/pepper.They are quite expensive, but well designed and built. If you appreciate good design, then these (or one of their other s/s or copper versions) will be for you.

I think the design of all WMF product is stylish and beautiful. As a salt and pepper mill the work as expected and are beautiful to display on a laid table. My child dropped the salt grinder and shattered the glass pot. I have tried a multitude of replacement options. If anyone can help me with a contact of the glass factory to replace I will be really grateful.

Initially I was very happy with this product. It’s an attractive design and worked well. However, the lip on one of the glass containers cracked and glass shards feel into the pepper - I almost ground glass onto my food! I had return this mill set.I reported this directly to WMF and it appears to be a known issue. Their response was that this can happen when salt gets onto the screw thread and essentially claimed misuse on my behalf which was not the case at all. I was very careful when filling the containers and neither salt nor pepper corns we’re trapped in the screw thread. The product was relatively new and had only seen light use.Overall, this could have been a great product but it has a serious design flaw.

Not that detailed, but quite smoothy. The wooden gap is not fit so usually it's loose.

Does the job and looks great!

Great design and functionality. Mills have arrived in perfect condition and in working order. Adjusting the grinding setting is very easy by turning a knob clockwise or counterclockwise. Overall made of very high quality. Transparent glass makes my pink himalayan salt look great on the table.

Very well engineered. Excellent consistent grind. Adjustable courses that works effectively. Feels solid and looks high quality
