Q: Should carbon steel rust after being in the dishwasher??

No it should rust, i have the same problem. It says on instruction it is dishwasher safe, but clearly not.

The cups and the tray are made of metal. However , a word of warning; each cup had a tiny plastic raises 'knob' so that they can be picked up. These are poorly designed and made so they drop off and make using the cups difficult. So difficult that it becomes dangerous trying to remove the cups containing the cooked eggs from a pan containing boiling water. I do not recommend this product. Pay more and buy a decent one that will last.
