More than a splitter, it is a 'directional' splitter
This device is more than just a splitter. It is a 'directional' splitter. That is, it provides different forward and reverse isolation's on the ports. So, how you connect it is important. There are no instructions provided. Note for some, the purpose of this device is to help ensure adequate signal reaches your cable modem. Specifically, the insertion loss of this splitter is 2.2 dB while a normal (2-port) splitter is about 4.5 db.For a normal TV / cable modem setup, the cable provider line would be connected to the port that has a (ground) screw next to it. This port is labeled "IN/out". The TV would be connected to the opposite side - labeled "TAP OUT/in". The cable modem would be connected to the near side - labeled "OUT/in".A CATV cable amplifier is often connected between your home line splitters and the TAP OUT/in to provide adequate signal levels to your various TVs.The (cable modem path) insertion loss of this device was around 2.2 dB, not the advertised 1 dB.Hope this info helps...

Great Tap
This is the best special-purpose splitter I have found. It is very difficult to find this kind of tap in retail outlets. It may look like any other splitter, but it is the only thing that has worked for me. I have used standard splitters in order to try and use both my cable modem and my main television. As the cable company keeps on 'messing' with the amount of signal it sends down its lines, the DB in my lines kept changing, and the signal fell below my cable modem operating threshold. After I purchased this tap, connected the tap out to the cable box and the regular out to the cable modem, I have not had any problems. I checked the signal from the cable modem, and it truly loses only 1DB from the full signal. The signal strength for the television is more than adequate.

Works ok
I replaced a monster standard splitter (-3.5db each output) with the Channel Vision 6db tap at my 2nd TV. I was trying to put more Comcast cable signal to the last TV (3rd) in the daisy chained wiring in my house that uses RG59 cable. Since Comcast went to digital transmission I have struggled to receive all of the basic channels on the 2nd and 3rd TV. As expected, I lost some signal strength on the 2nd TV with only marginal improvement to the 3rd TV. Not sure if anyone makes a cable amplifier that would help.

works well
Sloppy soldering on the back of the casing made me wonder if I'd been ripped off, but these things works as advertised. The "OUT" leg has only ~1dB (about 20%) signal loss, and a return path suitable for cable modems, power injectors, etc. The "TAP OUT" leg has ~6dB (about 75%) signal loss -- which is fine if you're running that line to a TV or amplifier.I used one to split the cable service to the modem and the amp, and another one just after the amp, to split the TV signal to the (TAP OUT) first-floor TV and the (OUT) line running upstairs to a 4-way splitter for the bedrooms. Good signals everywhere!

Nothing wrong with this prouct.
This product works as it should. But, until digital and Internet signals are improved and the signal doesn't weakens at times, I'm not going to be able to use my Tap Splitter until I can get a signal amplifier so I can have both TV's at least hooked up. Will have to check into this a bit more since I'm not as familiar as I should be. But it is more of a cable company problem then this product since I used to have analog and it didn't matter how many splitters or taps I used.

Out is 2.5 dbmv loss not 1.
Pro's:It's shaped like a splitter.Cons:Not getting rated loss and poorly made.Conclusion:$16 for this? More then a good splitter... Yet lacks quality and feels cheap like chromed plastic. I bought this to gain 2.5 dbmv from a 3.5 splitter for the modem. All I gained was 1 dbmv... So loss is not 1 dbmv, it's 2.5.

Rejected by cable installer.
A "better" one was installed without charge; but the unused one wasn't returned to me. It would have been nice to pass it on to someone else.... Hmmmm?

Works
So far it is working. Been thru a lot of splitters lately for some reason, but this one is still working!
