Not for the jelly hearted
The Coming of the Cosmic Christ is an excellent work by Matthew Fox directed toward helping believing people perceive the presence and reality of Christ (not Jesus) in the cosmos. Fr Fox has done a laudable job of reinterpreting the return of Christ to the cosmos he created in and with his Father and is a marvelous help to those who are willing to perceive his presence in the universe around them. It is not a book for those who want a traditional interpretation of Jesus as the Christ complete with the Christmas story and other associated ideas. In fact, it will probably be beyond the understanding of people with such mindsets. Let them not disturb their equanimity. That is, unless they are ready to travel beyond their present state. Given that bit of courage, sail on!

My "go to" author for inspiration
This was the first book I read by Matthew Fox. I have shared it with others.Matthew Fox is my "go to" author for both inspiration and information about the meaning of Jesus for our lives today. He beautifully displays the relevance of the religious viewpoint for our modern world in which we are encountering a broader and deeper understanding of live on Earth and our place in the universe.

the coming of the cosmic christ
The Coming of the Cosmic Christ" is a truly exciting and mind opening book. It is not something that challenges past beliefs, but writing that opens up the future. If you are hunting for a better world, if you wonder if what you have been told is all there is, then this is the book for you. I promise you will feel the better for having read it.Beverley Gledhill OAM Australia

Read it in 1990
Replaced an old book from 1990. Glad to re-read it and put it in my library.

I used this book as a college text
This book inspired discussion. I loved this book. If a student had some background in Christianity this book was a perfect place to begin to question previous knowledge and grow in faith. The book did not act as a fact giver but a question poser.

I'm an Atheist born & raised, and I love this book!
I've studied a few theologies, one of which was Tibetan Buddhism which I also love, like this book. Buddhism is inherently Atheistic, so it and Matthew Fox's book resonate to me. It's hard for me to describe, really. When I saw the price on this classic was so low, I had to get it. Thought I'd be getting a Kindle version, being less expensive, but for some reason it's not on Kindle.

An overly academic book but with some good points.
I thought the basic idea of the book was encouraging in that the personal nature of the Christ is being questioned. But I found that the writer still remained within the framework of traditional Christianity in many other ways and was excessively academic, relying on quotations from the Bible without questioning the accuracy of the records themselves.
