What’s great: My dad has fond memories of Slovenian potica, and he said this was perfect. His exact words were “This is the food that will be served in heaven.” He likes it sliced and spread with butter. He was absolutely delighted with the taste.UPDATE: After I posted my first review, asking for help because the second roll had gotten moldy before we could eat it, Stern’s Bakery promptly contacted me, apologized, promised to look into what might have gone wrong, and offered my choice of full refund or replacement. My dad kept mentioning how much he had enjoyed the first roll, so I was happy to ask for replacement instead. I’m editing my review and giving five stars. I will definitely buy this again. But from now on, we will put it in the fridge as soon as we receive it!PREVIOUS REVIEW:What wasn’t great: We received this on August 6, and it was fine. There were no instructions on the package or on the seller’s page about refrigeration, and the poppyseed rolls were still sealed in their packaging, so we left them on the counter. We ate the first one this week, and it was fine, but when we went to open the second one today (August 14), it had a huge patch of mold on it, even though it was still sealed in its packaging. The seller’s page says “refunds if unsatisfied, no questions asked,” and “This product is eligible for return/replacement.” I wanted to ask for a refund/replacement of the spoiled product, but there’s no way to do it. The only option is “return product.” I clicked there and then it says “This product is not eligible for return.” Well, fair enough, nobody wants a returned moldy poppyseed roll, but I DO want a refund or replacement for my spoiled product, because the seller did not warn us to refrigerate it. I checked the seller’s website and there’s no customer service. I clicked through multiple links on Amazon about how to get refunds for spoiled goods, but it always directs me to that same “request return” button, which is not what I want and will not help me. Usually if I had a problem like this, I would prefer to contact the seller to solve my problem rather than leave a negative review, but here it seems I have no option. I’m giving three stars as an average between the first roll (perfect) and the second roll (in the trash.) Poppyseed Cake is a fond memory from my childhood. These cakes did not disappoint. Arrived quickly and were fresh and tender. So happy that Stern’s Bakery can deliver to my rural area.

Generally Stern's is good, but this was awful. Stale and moldy.

Delicious. Brought back memories of my Hungarian grandmother. Arrived well packaged, and very fresh. An excellent value.

My Poppy Seed Cake came almost a quarter short, like someone took a section out from the container. Besides that, it has too much sugar in it.

Update #2- Canceling subscription.First time (below) I thought it was maybe our fault for not eating it soon enough and keeping in the original wrapping in the room temp. This time I am pretty sure it's the quality issue itself.Order placed Dec 3, arrived Dec 18 in Amazon envelope without any Perishable markings on it, not in a sturdy protective box) and separately from all autoship items that were expected a week earlier.We opened one of the tripple wrapped boxes at once. The roll didn't have the fresh look and the taste was a bit odd. I just decided that it needed more baking time. So we kept toasting slices and it helped a little. The second roll went to the fridge immediately to avoid the last time scenario. Unfortunately, as photos show, on the Christmas Eve we found that it's molded.Individually wrapped inside the box. Just make sure to eat soon because the moisture inside the tight plastic wrap + room temperature can cause undesired things happen if you think you can hold on them for a month....
