It is difficult to remove the backing tape without distorting and wrecking the jointing tape. If not careful you could end up with a ball of mastic.

I used it to join two overlapping membranes to stop water passing but it did not work

Excellent stuff! Used it to line my recording studio with damproof membrane to prevent interstitial condensation. It sticks and seals really well.
