Wait till it gets dark. Then press mode button until it switches the light off permanently. Then press mode button once for permanently on, twice for dim mode and 3 times for movement activated.

Yes they do have batteries. These are solar lights so they get recharged by sun. They also are so bright that my garden is lit up.
