123s (Charley Harper) Board book – Illustrated, November 1, 2008

I love this book and the Charlie Harper ABC's book too.This book is like a small collection of works of art rather than a child's book. I think it is well worth the price. It's beautifully printed. Charlie's illustrations are simple, clever, intelligent and beautiful. This book is far superior to many other children' books out there.I'm only giving it 4 stars, unfortunately, because many of the illustrations are repeated from the Charlie Harper ABC book.  Charley Harper ABCs (Chunky Version)  FOUR out of ten pages are repeats. If you want both books, be prepared for that. I wish I had known. I would not have bought this book. Plus the numbers book only goes up to 10, while the ABC book has over 26 pages. So you get a lot more in the ABC book. Even the end page is the same: a photo of Chalie in the woods studying the birds. They put some of his bird illustrations in the photo, so it's a neat collage, and my toddler loves to find the illustrated birds (just two of them) in the photo. I'd had loved it if they did this again using another photo or different bird illustrations.I'd still recommend this book. Charlie Harper was an amazing artist, and I'm so glad someone decided to share his work with our children!

My 21-month-old grandson adores this book. I was happy to introduce numbers to him with this and letters with Charley Harper ABC because I believe it's important to teach children aesthetics at the same time as their letters and numbers. It's just the right size for him to hold and the board book format make turning the pages easy for him, but the best part is the design and illustration. He even loves the last page that shows the illustrator standing in the woods in a black and white photo with two of his illustrated birds on the tree in front of him. It has helped my grandson to understand that someone drew the animals and birds and bugs in the book just as he is learning to do with his crayons and paper. He has other books of numbers and letters and colors as well, but the Charley Harper books are the first one he pulls from his bookshelves to read with me.

I loved Charlie Harper's ABCs so well that I wanted to buy this, too.And it is wonderful!But some of the pages are exactly the same or very minimally modified between the two books, which is a bit of a bummer. Snails, water-bugs, and chimpanzees do double-duty. Maybe they didn't think people would want to own both books?Other than that small gripe, it's awesome! Hooray for presenting children with creative and interesting art for their illustrations! There should be more board books like these ones! Highly recommend.

I love this book, and I would have given it 5 stars, but there is one page I just don't like...I know it's silly, but it just doesn't seem to fit with all the other pictures. It ruins the continuity of the book for me. BUT...it is a cute counting book and I do love 99% of the illustrations, so I would recommend this book.

This book is a great way to introduce little ones to alternative art, at this is the perfect age to do it. Charley Harper's interpretation of the natural world will spark little one's interest and ability to look at the world around him in his own unique way. It was great for my son, and great as a unique gift for cool parents.

I'm so thrilled that Charley Harper's work is out there again, then when I saw that it went to children's books, I had to get it! It's a different and fantastic book for children. Also get the ABC'S book and memory game!... :)-

I bought this book for my youngest daughter when she was barely a toddler and she absolutely loved it. I think she was really taken with Harper's amazing illustrations and colors, which is a testament to her good taste. I plan to get more literature with his artwork in it.

Very Very nice pictures, bought as a gift for the child of a graphic designer- apparently dad's more interested than the daughter. Arguably leaning about good design may be as important as learning to count!

Great illustrations, and fun way of learning to count with children. The book is of good quality, heavy card stock.

Great little book.

We have the Charley Harper ABC too and we just love his graphics. More for us than for the little one to be honest as they are a little obscure. Makes a good gift.
