The media could not be loaded. I tested this JACO gauge side by side with the Steelman, and it was no contest—JACO came out on top in every way that matters.Right away, you can feel the quality. It’s heavier and thicker than the Steelman, which gives it a solid, durable feel in hand. The construction feels premium, not flimsy like the lightweight competition.Functionally, it’s accurate and consistent. No matter how fast or slow I pressed it to the tire, I got reliable readings every time. I even had a few others try it, and the results were steady across the board. That level of consistency gave me a lot of confidence in the tool.The only thing I somewhat question is the black background on the dial, while it looks professional, the contrast makes it hard to read at times unless you have decent lighting. It doesn’t have the white background like the Steelman, but I’ll take accuracy and durability over needing a phone or flashlight to read it any day.Overall, the JACO feels like a real tool—not a toy. Definitely glad I chose this one.

My tire guy at the dealership had this tool. He checked my 4 tires. Very simple to operate. Gives you clear indication of your remaining tread depth. Recommend for any car owner who wants to take care their automobile. Very useful, practical and affordable auto tool.

This manual tire tread depth gauge was exactly what we needed for quick tire inspections. For the price, it’s a fantastic tool—but be warned: it’s not built to survive a drop.Before the drop? Flawless.The dial was easy to read, smooth in operation, and accurate. It gave consistent results and made checking tires fast and precise. No batteries to worry about, and it felt solid enough in the hand. We used it on everything from sedans to lifted trucks.After the drop? Not so great.Unfortunately, it slipped off the workbench and hit the garage floor. After that, the dial needle was permanently stuck about ¼ inch forward and wouldn’t return to zero. That threw off all the measurements and made it unreliable. There was no visible damage, but something internal shifted out of alignment.Lesson learned: this tool works great—but handle it gently. It's more of a precision measuring tool than a rugged shop item. Makes determining tire tread wear a snap. Easy to use and easy to read the gauge. Quality build. Nice to finally not have to rely on the Dealer Service Center, which always seems to want to sell a new set of tires!
