Excellent hands on activity
Ordering third kit. Hands on activity with an excellent end result. I placed newspaper on the table THEN opened the package. The kids took it from there. Chiseled away at the sediment and the bones became visible. The bones were easy to construct. Awesome gift. Awesome play time at home while improving manual dexterity skills.

Super fun project
Super fun project! My 8 year old thought it was great. Docked it a star due to the fact that you really need a real hammer, not the plastic one it comes with. Other than that, fun project!

He loved it and had fun chiseling out the bones
Bought this for my nephew. He loved it and had fun chiseling out the bones. My sister however was not fond of the mess it made which is why I'm giving it 4 starts instead of 5. When she realized the mess it made she made him finish the project inside a pizza box for easier clean up. Just be aware.

Great toy idea but not a quality product
My grandson loves dinosaurs, but when he excavated the bones of the T Rex and we snapped it together, all the bones were soft and the snaps cracked off when we tried to put it together. Not worth $10 for under 10 minutes of fun....

Grandson loved it
Four year old grandson loved it! It went right along with the dinosaurs that they were playing with in preschool. Kept his interest for over 2 hours!

Good product
Very nice excavation kit! The digging block is hard enough to be challenging yet not discouraging to work with, which makes the activity interesting. The skeleton is a bit hard to put together due to some quality issues.Otherwise, the time was well spent with this kit.

My girls loved digging out the fossils and I would have given it 5 stars but it was missing a piece of the skull so we didn't have a finished dinosaur at the end.

Very disappointed 😔
I wanted to give a good review but bought this as a Easter gift and it came missing an arm and two sides of the left head. So disappointed in this item.

A great lesson in patience
My preschooler loves dinosaurs and while I was a bit hesitant about a kit that was aimed an older crowd, I decided to go ahead as I felt that with adequate supervision it could be a great deal of fun. I worked on this with my four-year-old and the greatest take-away lesson was patience and that paleontology is a lot more work than she thought. Knowing that it was likely to cause a bit of a mess, I lined a large casserole dish with aluminum foil to create our "dig site," which not only gave us an easily portable work-space but also greatly aided in clean up. We worked in stages since her patience level is what is to be expected of her age group, and while she was a bit impatient the first few times we had to take a break, my explanations about how actual dig sites work (I went on a couple in my school days) helped her decided that she wanted to do it like the pros.Eventually we had all the pieces cleared and I did most of the work in assembly as overly-excited fingers needed assistance. Our finished model now resides on the bookcase, more a testament to learning the value of patience than learning about dinosaurs, but a valuable lesson nevertheless.

Fun activity that takes several hours and results in a cool dinosaur fossil skeleton
This was a lot of fun for my 11 year old. He liked the rock pick and I was glad it was plastic not metal, though it did a good job of cutting through the plaster. It took several hours for him to get everything out and my husband and I each took a turn helping. It does make quite the mess of plaster dust. Also we found that the dinosaur only balances on its own if its tail is able to hang over the edge of the table. It falls if the the tail needs to be on the same level as the surface the feet are on.The plastic seems pretty sturdy and nothing broke or cracked during the "excavation" process. Snapping them together, especially the hips and leg bones he did get some help from his dad.My son thought this was pretty cool and I'm glad we found it. We did it as a precursor to going to the Natural History Museum and seeing some real dinosaur bones.
