The supplement under review here is Boron, 3 Mg Advanced Chelate Complex 100 vegetarian capsules manufactured for Quality Supplements and Vitamins, Inc of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and packaged and marketed under the Life Extension brand. Boron is an essential element for bone health, yet it currently seems to remain unappreciated and I've yet to have a physician recommend or even mention it to me. I am not a medical doctor, nor am I a nutritionist. I am merely reporting on research that is readily available in the scientific literature. Please consult with a physician if you have concerns for yourself, or with a veterinarian if you are concerned about a pet. According to Rex Newnham and Assoc, (1994) "Essentiality of Boron for healthy bones and joints" the evidence in support of the necessity of dietary boron for health has actually been building up since as far back as 1963. The following information comes from other research reviewed within that publication: 1) those who have arthritis also have less Boron in their bones than those who do not have arthritis, 2) those who take boron supplements have bones that are harder to cut than those who do not take a boron supplement, 3) world-wide epidemiology has shown that there is an inverse relationship between boron intake and arthritis (more boron = less arthritis in the population with a daily intake of 3 - 10 mg yielding a prevalence rates of 0 -10% in the population, and those with little to no daily boron intake experiencing arthritis at rates up to 70%), and 4) experimental research with both rats and 5) humans shows improvement in arthritis pain, stiffness and disability with boron supplementation over the course of 8 weeks or longer. According to Miljkovic, Scorei, Cimpoias¸u & Scorei, (2009) Calcium Fructoborate: Plant-Based DietaryBoron for Human Nutrition, boron taken orally is readily absorbed with a half-life just over 20 hours, and then most of it is excreted. The authors also state that the World Health Organization indicated that daily boron intake could be 1-13 mg per day. They caution that boron is known to affect hormone levels: "boron supplementation obviously elevates theserum concentrations of 17-β-estradiol and testosterone" (Nielsen, Hunt, Mullen, & Hunt, 1987, cited in Miljkovic et al,. 2009). It is also known that boron deprivation increases the urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium and decreases the levels of 17-β-estradiol and testosterone in women at postmenopause (Nielsen, 2004b). Boron is known to affect the activity of cell membranes; this information is complex and the interested reader knowledgeable in this specialty is encouraged to investigate the plethora of relevant research. Boron supplementation in those with Vitamin D deficiency rose the serum levels of Vitamin D 20% without further intervention. Boron also appears to reduce the risk of prostate cancer in a dose-dependent fashion. If that isn't enough to convince you of the importance of boron, boron-depleted diets in humans has been associated with poorer performance on tasks measuring manual dexterity, perception, and long-term memory (Penland, 1994). Other research has supported the combination of Boron and Omega-3 fatty acids as more beneficial than either alone.This particular supplement contains Boron as boron citrate / aspartate / glycinate complex, 3 mg, and Riboflavin (B2) 25 mg. As listed above, there seem to be many benefits to supplementation with Boron. There are additional benefits suggested in the research, and even more for a form called Calcium Fructoborate. According to the authors, this is the form in which people ingest boron from plants, provided that the boron was present in the soil where the plants were grown. The authors posit that this form is much more bioactive. There is some research support for it's effectiveness, in this form, against breast cancer. It also demonstrated superior relief for those with osteoarthristis. Those who are interested in Boron due to a severe medical condition may do well to discuss the different forms of Boron available with a well-versed practitioner. Calcium Fructoborate (CF), while impressively effective, is also impressively expensive. As a young, healthy person I am considering this form (under review) to be enough for myself. i will be adding Borax to the garden soil to provide boron for my vegetables and fruits, and obtain CF in that way. The solid plastic bottle protects the capsules well. Both the bottle and the cap are recyclable. This LifeExtension product has a flip-top lid, which a small projection over an indentation that makes it very easy to leverage and open this way, without sacrificing your fingernails. For those who prefer, the flip top can also simply be unscrewed. This supplement comes in what I think is a convenient dosage of 3 mg, The small capsules made of vegetable cellulose are filled with a yellow-orange powder. I opened up one of the capsules and found the taste to be almost pleasant although the after-taste was less so. I have a elderly pet with arthritis, and am able to sprinkle a little bit on the pet food and still have the food accepted. Unfortunately, I do not have information about proper dosage, etc., so all I can do is hope to increase comfort and movement by carefully titrating, taking notes and being patient, and perhaps growing catnip in boron-enriched soil.

Make sure and take a couple of drops of iodine with this, because it will strip a little iodine out of your system, but works well to free up your bound testosterone. It's Horn ee time

This stuff really improved the quality of my life! Thank you Life Extension for providing such a life changing product. I take 6mg per day. If only I'd knew about boron sooner. I have had to suffer with arthritis, joint pain, and severe aching feet for several years. It was getting worst and worst. Got so bad that I could only be on my feet for 30 mins at a time. I couldn't enjoy life like I use too. Didn't want to go out with friends anymore. Didn't want to work out anymore. Could hardly shop for groceries. My body and feet ached so bad. My joints were often stiff and would lock up if I stood too long or sat too long, or even lied down in one position too long. I felt like asking my doctor for a wheel chair. I would also have swelling in both feet. I thought to my myself, "how was I going to work and make a living when I could hardly be on my feet?" My pain was severe! I would wake up feeling like I had been moving heavy furniture. My doctor did nothing but prescribe ibuprofen. I found out about this product by during my research of omega xl. I had never heard of boron. Someone mentioned boron in a review. I researched the benefits of boron but I didn't believe it would work for me. I found Life Extension Boron on Amazon and ordered it anyway. At that time, my feet were in the worst pain ever and they were very swollen. The swelling wouldn't go away. I went to the ER where they ran test but couldn't find an answer. My order arrived two days later. I started taking two capsules per day. In two days the swelling went down and I could walk and stand! I have been taking two capsules since May 21, 2020. Mannnn, let me tell you it has changed my life! I feel how I felt years ago before I ever had a problem with pain. I get up at 6am and I'm up on my feet till 11pm with NO PAIN! I have no aches, no joint pain, no foot pain, no swelling. Nothing! I can bend, stretch, and run. I feel like a million dollars! Writing this makes me want to cry because I can't believe how good I feel. I suffered all alone for so long. I had pain from my head to my toes. No more! Some mentioned bright yellow urine while taking these. Yes, its from B2 which is needed for proper absorption and replenishment. I have been telling all my friends and family about this product. This stuff works! I will be buying this product for a lifetime.

I have nothing bad to say about the product, the packaging and the quality seems good. However, I couldn’t tell that it had any benefit, aside from having a side effect of making my ear and bright bright yellow. I won’t order it again.

Good supplement

Took these a while back and the capsules were white now they are bright yellow and give you yellow urine. I take a multi and a b vitamin. I wish companies would stop putting extra single b vitamins in everything not only do I not need them excess can be dangerous at worse and for me irritate my urinalysis tract.Why can’t you just sell boron by itself as it says on the front?
