Do the base plates stop the spike reaching the ground?

The spike is about 10cm long goes easily into ground and holds the pole firm. Used good few times on training now in grass grounds

Is there a recess on top of the pole to lay a piece of rope across

No You could gaffer tape is on though if reuqired? What would you need rope for at 6 foot high? To garrote giants?
