Handy Jig
This is a great jig for making crown molding cuts. A homemade one out of hardwood would be much better, but for the cost this is a deal. The back and the bottom are made of crisscross plastic strips for strength. That is fine, but you need a solid surface if you are going to keep it in place with double faced tape. Just fill these areas with epoxy and plane it down flat and you have a perfect fitting jig that can be taped in place. I have a 12" saw, so I did not have the issues others have expressed when using a 10 inch saw. If this jig is taped down, it is easy to set up supports of equal height. Trying to hold the jig, hold the board and run the saw at the same time would be a chore for sure.

Great for beginners like me!
It came to me with a missing part. A very important tightening knob that is a must in order to operate the device. I hoping the manufacturer will see my photo and send me the missing part. I have rigged up a temporary knob but I need the original missing piece. The Bench Dog has been very helpful. Having the pictures on the packaging and the crown box, has made it easy to learn how to make all the necessary cuts to run crown and base. Love that simple feature. Beginners like me, the pictures are a blessing. Great buy for the money.

Very Useful Tool
I used this jig for the first time last month to successfully install crown molding in two rooms. This was also my first time installing crown molding so the concept of cutting everything upside down took some time to get used to, but once I got it, the cuts came quickly. The jig obviously cannot compensate for an incorrect measurement or a poor cut, but it was helpful in guiding the user to determine the correct side of the blade to place the molding, showing the direction of the cut, and keeping the crown held securely at the correct angle from the base to the back of the fixture. The plastic is very durable (dropped it several times on concrete without incident) and the clamp with two plastic wing nuts can be tightened to keep the molding firmly in place. I would have liked to have some rubber coating on the bottom of the fixture to reduce slight scraping of the table but mainly to stop the jig from sliding on the table once in position. It would also be nice if the jig had a built in clamp so it could be secured to the back fence or the table without interfering with the cut.I would definitely recommend this fixture instead of buying crown stops that are usually specific to your miter saw and may not hold crown molding as well as this jig.

A must Have.
Over all it does what it says it will do and holds crown molding very well. I used it on 3" crown molding", and I have to say it works very well all the corners came out tight as can be.(tip)"make sure you have your crown molding in upside down in the Jig when you adjust the jig to the molding". Make sure to check your saws angle cuts before starting your trim work, Make sure your miter saw makes a good 90 degree cut and 45's and you should have no trouble with cutting molding, take your time and think, picture the cuts in your head how the cuts lay. Also there are nice little pictures on the bench dog jig that shows you the placement of the jig and the direction of the saw, always cut about 1/6th over and fine tune it until you become confident with cutting. This was my first time doing crown molding I used this jig along with a black and decker complete trim book and my molding on my oak cabinets came out fantastic! and you can always rent a decent miter saw from your local lumber company. good luck doing your trim work I hope this helps.

Very useful tool
I found the Bench Dog crown molding jig to be very useful in cutting wide crown molding on my 12" miter saw. I didn't find it to be unstable as mentioned in some reviews. It's true that when using the jig you have to make sure that both the molding is held flat against the base and fence of the jig and that the jig is held flat against the base and fence of the saw but the stops on the jig and the ridged fence extensions make it easy to do this. I found that I could press down with the pressure required to hold everything in place without having to worry about the molding moving. This is the real problem that the jig solves. Without the jig, it's difficult to hold the molding in place. I found that I was able to keep the jig close enough to the blade so that it was resting on the table of the saw. The instructions were also helpful in making sure the molding was placed in the correct orientation for each of the four cuts (L,R, inside, outside). All in all, a useful tool.

Bench Dog Crown Molding Jig
It very clearly states that the jig is for 10 inch miter saws and will work on 6 inch molding on the Amazon site description. On the box it clearly states that for wide crown molding a 12 inch saw is necessary. The jig came with bolts for the height adjustment so short that the nuts could not even be restarted on the bolts. Had to go to the hardware store and buy the correct length bolts. It is beyond my comprehension that the assembler could have put the jig together without realizing the bolts were too short. This is a safety issue!!I have a 10 inch Ryobi miter saw and the motor hits the jig on right hand cuts.In my opinion the jig is unsafe to use as designed and shipped. The bolts are too short and the jig needs to be longer.I made my own jig to cut the crown molding. The product based on my experience is junk, I do not recommend this product, buyer beware.
