Very Sturdy Plugs
I have lived in SA and traveled there often. I used to make my own adapters, but this adapter is very heavy and sturdy. It is made of molded rubber (not plastic) and is extremely well constructed. It also has the advantage of having 3 pins and not only 2, and the ground is not a dummy. It will be fine for laptops. Not there is only one outlet so you may want buy a couple of these. The price is right, even with shipping.Note this is not a converter, just an adapter. It will work for laptops; USB chargers; razors; etc that are dual 110/220v units. DO not use with a 110v heating device. Hairdryers; curling irons etc. bought in the USA are always 110v only. Consider buying a cheap hairdryer there at any hypermarket or Clicks pharmacy.

Works fine, good price.
Works fine. Well made (I think, anyway) Good price. But lets face it, it is really just an adapter ... what could be wrong?

Worked Great
Went to South Africa a few weeks ago and brought two of these adapters with me along with a multi-use adapter I bought from AAA. I found that most places in South Africa either had outlets with two small prongs and the three prong, or the three prong only. These adapters worked great everywhere, they are sturdy and are not loose in the outlets. I highly recommend them.

Very heavy
Does its job, of course, but it's very heavy and quite bulky. The plastic material feels very solid, but that comes at the expense of having to lug an unexpectedly heavy (for its very simple function) item in your luggage.

Don't Work in India (Mumbai)
The title of this product says that it works for both South Africa and India. I purchased three of them for my recent trip to India (Mumbai) and they did not work at all! The prongs are physically too far apart to fit into the plugs anywhere I went in Mumbai. These may be great adapters for South Africa (I can't say, I haven't been there) but they are definitely NOT great adapters for India. Its too bad too - these are sturdy, well built adapters. I wish they had worked!

Works Pefectly!
I used this with a transformer so I had no problems with the devices I charged using this product. I was initially worried about the grounding prong, the single one at the bottom, as older US homes don't always have it. I worried that there might be the same kind of variance in SA that would leave the plug useless without yet another adapter, but it seems they're more uniform than the States, at least the three places I stayed.

Awesome
For a trip to Botswana and South Africa I figured that I'd need some extra adapters -- it always happens that others get the wrong adapter or forget theirs -- so I bought more than I thought I'd need: a couple of cheap ones, a medium one, and two of these. You never know if you'll get what you pay but in this case I did. Though made in China, this is one very sturdy plug. It's one molded rubber piece rather than the two piece plastic types which you usually find in airports etc. Those usually work but sometimes they don't. As a consequence this adapter is highly recommended.BTW it won't work in India -- that's a different plug though it also has three prongs.

Don't buy this if you just need an adapter to charge your smartphone and/or laptop in India!
Construction is good and solid. This adapter is very easy and safe to work with. It worked well in India.I had bought this because I was traveling from the US to India for three weeks and needed an adapter to charge my smartphone and laptop. However, I bought this in a rush and didn't realize that unlike the US, India uses two different power outlets. This adapter is meant for high power devices such as appliances. This goes into the less common of the two power outlets in India. It will work for charging your smartphone and laptop, but if you are staying in a hotel room it may not have an outlet that will take this plug.If all you need in your adapter is to charge portable electronic devices, get the adapter that goes into the smaller outlet. I believe the output plug for the smaller outlet is called type D. You should have plenty of inexpensive options here on Amazon.
