Good basic gps - read and understand features before buying!
This gps unit does exactly as described. Do not buy if you're expecting a fully featured GPS unit. This really needs a connection to a phone to be usable. That said it's fully functioning as they described it and is fully sun powered if needed. Would recommend for geocaching or emergency navigation.

Will run continuously without recharging
A little expensive, but will work continuously without power. I have used it continuously for seven days away from civilization with no problems. The display legibility is fabulous, the best Garmin display ever (but that is a low bar). My biggest criticism is that I have not been able to load maps on it, but that could be my problem.

Great just-the-basics GPSr
First I want to say do your research into what this GPS receiver can and can't do. This is a basic unit with just the essentials. It will track where you go, let you navigate a route and back, hunt down some geocaches and has a few extras when paired with a cell phone. It does *not* have a color screen, satellite communication, loadable topo, region, or other maps, or even a speaker to emit a beep. The unit is small, light weight, easy to operate and has all the essentials to navigate around. The screen is easily readable during day or night. And the solar charging allows you to keep going pretty much indefinitely. You can check out full details on Garmin's web site, even download and read the manual. If you're looking for a basic but capable GPSr, this is a great unit for your needs and I can recommend it.

No more batteries with MGRS
Excellent! Now you don't have to buy batteries. This thing charges very well in the sun.If you go camping for several days, you don't have to worry about carrying heavy batteries that take up weight in space in your backpack. This thing is awesome because it allows you to display your location in several different formats. I prefer to use the m GRS format. What it has built in this is good for military grid reference system

Best GPS YET
This Garmin Solar GPS IS WHAT IV BEEN WAITING FOR. This unit has it all "except color maps" instead it uses a base map with Citys. But that's ok, I never really used the map to like navigate. I use this all the time, it has a really cool feature that when standing still the compass still works, unlike other Garmin gps's iv had in past years you would need to move around to get a bearing on direction. This unit charges fast from the sun and lasts a long time. I have yet to have the battery die out on me. You can also use Garmin's APP to connect this to your phone and use advanced mapping features. If your fine without having a base map or on the GPS and trade that for battery life almost unlimited in the field this unit is for you. I own 2 other Garmin's and love these so much.

Locked up, for 2 hours 41 minutes, so far...
Unit locks up, displaying "Saving" on the screen whenever any attempt is made to save activities.Requires the power button to be held down for 20 seconds or so, and does NOT save anything.Unit also is incapable of holding ANY maps, requires a cell phone to see any maps....well, uh, MY CELLPHONE ALREADY HAS MAPS!!!So, WhyTF should I give Garmin $249.99 MSRP for a "standalone" unit, which requires a cellphone to show any maps?!?!?!?!?!? This is ludicrous.I own the following Garmin products; GPS38 (which is just about as useful as the Etrex Solar, since the GPS Constellation epoc rolled over), GPS III Plus (great unit, still works), a Street Pilot III (good unit, but too big and power hungry), some sort of Nuvi (works great in the vehicle), Etrex 30X (great unit, CAN load maps, could use better battery life), and this defective, overpriced Solar Turd.Oh! And to update the software, I have to download TWO data-mining apps!!!What happened Garmin?!? Ya'll used to be a quality company.

Works great
Works great. I use this for doing back country hiking or to record mountain biking when I can't get my garmin bike computer to connect. The interface is a little to get used to but nothing too difficult. The solar charging also works as described. I have had zero issue connecting this to my phone through their app. This thing has been dropped a few times on both rocky terrain and in water, seems to hold up fine, which it should as it is kind of chunky.

Does not have an actual map!!!!
Doesn't actually have maps on it Don't know why you'd want a GPS without an actual map, you can preload courses over a blank slate and you can pair it with your phone but does not work as a standalone GPS device. The number of satellites that it interacts with are nice but the very very limited memory makes it less usable.
