A little Perspective
Ok, for the price of a gourmet coffee you get a knife with a full tang, decent gimping on the top, and a usable/serviceable sheath, fire steel, and paracord. Is this a Contego? No, its a great knife for the price. If you get one that's not as sharp as you would like, its not the end of the world, tune the edge up with a stone. Its probably a good time for some practice anyway. Most fire starters with plastic handles are made over seas and if you have any experience with using a fire starter from there they some times fly out of the handle. This is easily rectified with a few drops of super glue and it will never move again. Ignore the haters that expect a high end knife for around 6 bucks. As far as starting a fire with the knife, it works just fine. Starting a fire with any fire steel takes a little skill and some practice like any other skill. Again, if you have any experience with this you know this to be true.Just find the sweet spot on the knife and angle and it showers sparks. If you are buy this as your only survival knife, than you have bigger issues to think about. Like any other tool in your tool box or pack, understand is uses and limitations and have the rite tool for the job. Remember, around 6 bucks for this tool you really cant go wrong.

Ignore all negative reviews
I went through every negative review and decided to really put the striker through torcher. No matter how hard I dig the knife into the striker it will not fly out of the handle like the bad reviews say. If you look at the photo of the striker it looks as if i took pliers and tried to pull the striker out of the handle, that's how hard I was dragging the knife across it. Now the knife itself came about as sharp as any knife I have purchased for under $10. It shaved nice curly wood shavings off a completely dry 1.5" thick stick with the factory sharpen. That's good enough for me. My worry was the strength of the tip and if it would snap off when I stab something. Well I stabbed it into my door multiple times and twisted the blade out violently, still kept it's shape and never broke off (picture of the minion stabbed in the head above). Now the main purpose I wanted this knife was for a kindling maker. I like how the knife Is a one piece design that has a tappered blade. If you look at the photo above I took a wood mallet and tapped the knife on a 2" wood chunk and it split like butter. This one piece knife will definitely be useful during camping. That's why I bought two!!

Good, but some flaws.
I've bought three of these knives and been given one as a gift by my wife. Because I have more than one of these, maybe I can help the review process. All of them were bought off of this Amazon store page. Two of the knives were the Survivor brand which is what you expect to get when all of the different options of colors show Survivor brand. One of the knives is black paracord with a black sheath, the other is the two-tone green paracord with a black sheath. These knives are sharp and seem to keep their edge. The firestarter may be a bit weak, but for a cheap extra camping knife, well worth it in my estimation. One of the sheaths has grommets on it, which makes it a little bit stronger than the one without. The sheaths are just plain nylon so probably won't last forever either way. The handle wrapping does appear to be some form of light paracord on both knives, not the highest quality, but not too flimsy. One firestarter has very thin, lightweight string, the other is more durable cord. The Green sheath and green wrapped handle knife was SE brand. It arrived in a plain white box, but the SE brand is on the handle. Inferior all the way around. Dull, not sure it will hold an edge. The metal feels soft. I can understand 1 star reviews if this is the type of knife anyone gets. The wrap on the knife is paracord with light string on the firestarter. I have not used the firestarter, but it looks like the others. The sheath is the same as all the others. I'll likely keep it anyway. If you add this to your cart, you can see if it says SE or Survivor. The gift knife had no name on it, just says China. It is black wrapped paracord with a black sheath. I don't remember the box type. I got this one before ordering the others. Surprisingly, it has kept its edge for over a year. I've used the firestarter and while it is weak, it does work. The paint will wear off and the plastic handle might crack on the firestarter, but it works and still holds together. The sheath is like the others except weaker, but the knife quality is surprisingly good. It has real paracord on both the handle and the firestarter. It was because of the quality for such a cheap knife that I decided to get spares for camping or emergencies.Three of the four knives are at least good enough, but you may not get the brand you expect. (Check your cart!) If you get an off-brand it may still be a decent knife, but it might be as horrible as the one star reviews claim. I could give 3 stars for two of the knives being the wrong brand, but 4 stars because three of the knives are decent enough for the price.

Not just an amazing knife, but an amazing tool, and worth every penny
I've had one of these I keep with me in my truck (Im a commercial truck driver and drive all lower 48 states). In the two years I've owned it it has seen heavy use as not just a general purpose knife but a box cutter, scraper (thanks to the flat edge), light duty pry bar (thanks to the single piece fixed blade), occasional finger nail cleaner, and damn near anything else I could think of. The knife came out of the box reasonably sharp but not so sharp that its dangerous to use if you slip (unlike my kbar that could easily take a finger), and it has held its sharpness pretty well despite heavy use and a general disregard for keeping it sharp. The sheath and the paracord have both held up very well too and still function perfectly with no major tears or frays. For the price this knife is worth every penny and then some, so much so that I recently bought a second one to keep in an emergency "go bag" at home. The bag, while mostly filled with emergency food, water, blankets, first aid supplies, etc, needed a compact knife that could work for a wide variety of situations and hold up over time. I couldnt think of a better knife than this.
