It also comes with some nice accessories, which include a quality 3400mAh 18650 battery
Here's the Soonfire DS31, a competent, capable, rechargeable, and BRIGHT LED flashlight! It measures 5.8" long, and weighs about 6.34 ounces (with battery). It also comes with some nice accessories, which include a quality 3400mAh 18650 battery, a USB charging cable, and a belt holster. Beam distance is pretty good at 376 meters, and it's waterproof (submersible) to 2 meters. For batteries, the included 18650 is the intended power source. Obviously ANY 18650 can be used, but the internal charging feature can ONLY operate with an 18650. The DS31 also accepts other battery configurations. These consist of either 2 - CR123 disposables, or 2 - (rechargeable) 16340's, or 2 (rechargeable) 18350's. Again, DO NOT use the USB charging cable when running it with a two battery configuration. The Cree XP-L LED produces a nice, white beam. It has 5 modes, lower-low, low, medium, high, and turbo. In terms of output (lumens), from lowest to highest, they rank about like this; 8 - 60 - 200 - 500 - 1050. In addition, there's also strobe and SOS. Mode memory always recalls the last mode used. With two switches; one on the tail, and one on the side, it's tactical. Momentary light can be produced by lightly pressing the tail, at any time. Once on, the side (mode) switch changes the mode. Turbo can be activated on demand, by a DOUBLE-CLICK. Strobe can be activated on demand, by a HOLDING PRESS of the mode switch. Once in strobe, a single click activates SOS. Another single click (from SOS) activates "high". To return to the last REGULAR mode that was seen before strobe was activated, press and HOLD the switch either from SOS or high. The mode is switch is partially illuminated whenever the light is on. Normally it's "blue". But it also has other uses. As the battery weakens, it becomes a "low voltage indicator". This is when it begins "flashing" in blue. If ignored and allowed to run for a while longer, the flashing "blue" becomes a flashing "red"! Eventually, if not charged, it'll just shut off.The indicator also works in a similar way when the USB cable is connected. In this case, "red" is seen while it's charging, and "blue" is displayed when the charge is complete. Charging time is pretty modest, since the light uses an average current of approximately 700mA. There's also a timed stepdown when left on turbo, so as not to damage the LED or allow the body of the light to become too hot. After about 8 minutes, turbo shifts down to high.As I said, the Soonfire DS31 is a good flashlight. It has quality components and accessories. It's not too long to fit into a pocket, and the included clip keeps it secure. The switches operate very well, and having tactical operation is a plus!Of the beam pictures I attached, the one with the lamp, is on the lowest mode. The others are on turbo. For anyone needing an easy to operate, bright (when you need it) flashlight of good quality, I'd recommend the Soonfire DS31!

My new favorite light.
The media could not be loaded. I purchased two lights of the same model, one Gray the other a Bronze / Gold color so I’ll be using the same review for both models as they are exactly the same other than color. The light came nicely boxed with an 18650 battery already installed in the flashlight and mostly charged. A Belt clip is also already attached to the light but can be removed if needed. A nice nylon belt pouch that holds the light very securely, wrist strap/lanyard, USB charging cable, an extra O ring for the battery cap and they even include an extra rubber cover for the USB port if the installed one becomes damaged or is lost. The light itself with battery installed weighs in at 179grams and has a nice heavy duty feel to it. On the tail cap there’s an ON/OFF switch which can be pressed in partially for momentary lighting. And after turning on there’s a side switch which lets you cycle through the lighting modes, from very dim “nightlight”, “which actually works pretty good in a completely dark room where your eyes are adjusted as not to draw attention but still be able to see enough to move around”, low / mid / high. Holding in the side button switches modes to Strobe / SOS / High, cycling through by quickly pressing the side button. The side button itself is somewhat transparent and has some LED lighting behind it letting you know if the battery needs charging, when it starts blinking RED quickly there will be less than 20% remaining. This is one thing I really like about Soonfire’s flashlights, the built in charger, it’s located under a rubber cap located opposite of the “Mode” button. There’s a micro USB port and using the included cable and any phone/usb style charger you can charge your light, “NOTE, the light does not come with a charger”.I have plenty of chargers laying around and at least they included a nice USB cable with the light. After plugging in the charger “I’m using a 5 port Anker charger”, you press the tail cap switch and the mode button will start blinking red, this changes to blue once the charge is completed. The charge time will vary depend on the amperage your charger supplies. I’ve tried charging using at 12V car charger and an 30k mah battery pack and they both worked for charging this light. Now for actually using the light. This light it very bright on full power mode, it’s brighter than the 1k lumen Nitecore P12 I’m comparing it to and way brighter than the older model Coast Led Lenser T7.I have around 50 “or more” lights but these are the two I’ll be using for comparison. The Soonfire is just a little longer, wider and heavier than the Nitecore but it does have the built in charger, and the lens/reflector is a little wider giving it a tighter beam “just a little”. You can see the difference in size in the attached pictures. The beam is strong with a defined spot in the center with a nice overflow that floods the area around it. One thing I noticed during the comparisons, the Nitecore after a couple minutes, the head of the light became very warm, the Soonfire was just slightly warm. The larger head size of the Soonfire seems to help keep the light considerably cooler than the Nitecore. In the outdoor video the pine trees that the Soonfire is illuminating are approximately 75-90’ high, excellent illumination at this distance. Video of the back yard is approximately 50’ to the back, again very bright on high. The white wall picture is of the Soonfire, on the left, the Nitecore in the middle and the Coast on the right. You can see the Soonfire has a brighter and defined center the Nitecore is very close and the Coast doesn’t even compare to either, “all are set on max / high setting”.I’ll be buying more of these light as gifts, they are rugged, bright and very easy for anyone to use. The built in charger is a huge help for those that don’t want to keep track of where there charger is.

Edited to report warranty issue
This would have been a terrible review had it not been for Youtube. I am impressed with the light but experienced some issues right out of the box and had to pull the battery to reboot the unit. Also the instructions for charging are incorrect, they tell you to turn the unit on then connect to charging cable, this did not work for mine. I watched a video review of this light and found that by plugging in the cable then turning the light on put it in charge mode. Worth noting is that the unit is not emitting light during charging using this method. To sum it up I'm very happy with the flashlight but poor language skills cost the seller a star. I hope this helps others and saves them some time. I'm back to update this review and add a star. This light has taken a lot of abuse and it's tough. I did have a minor issue and contacted customer service on Tuesday, I'm writing this on Thursday and just received a brand new light. I have nothing but praise now and here's their well deserved fifth star.

Gone through two and the second one is malfunctioning now too.
Its a nice usable beam, with decent battery life but. . . . constantly shorts out when on. Partially cured by cleaning battery terminals but seem like it always comes back.

Very bright and durable
I use this flashlight everyday at work for many hours at a time and the charge will last for multiple days with this kind of use at a high level of brightness.I have dropped it many times and it hasn't broken. Having the rubber buttons was a big selling point for me because the last one I bought the plastic button broke. Soonfire's customer service was great they refunded the cost of the one that broke and I ordered this one which is fantastic.I highly recommend this product especially for people who need a small powerful light for inspections

I expected to be disappointed. I wasn't.
I bought this flashlight with very specific needs - and so far it has performed impressively! Here in Grafton, Ontario, Canada, at this time of year (early December), the sun sets at about 4:30 PM and doesn't rise again until 7:30 AM or so. I walk 5km early every morning with my Border Collie - usually leaving the house around 5:30 or 6:00 am - well before the sun has even thought about rising. Once we leave the bright lights of the hamlet behind (about 5 minutes into our walk!), we walk along a seasonal road allowance that has absolutely no ambient light whatsoever - the stars shine so brightly! It's also deer hunting season, and so we have to be visible - I carry my flashlight, and my dog wears a noxgear ""LightHound" Illuminated Harness. I turn on the flashlight as soon as we're out of the range of the village lights, but the very lowest setting is more than bright enough to illuminate the road so I don't twist my ankle in a pot-hole and give me enough peripheral vision that I'm comfortable. But, if I hear a vehicle coming in the distance, or my dog lets me know there's a coyote (or deer, or rabbit!) up ahead - or behind, I can click up the light intensity to clearly see (and be seen!) a good half mile away! I was concerned that cold weather might impact the battery life, but so far (admittedly it's only been about 10 below Celsius so far this year) there's been no issue at all - and I think I've only charged it twice in a month! Highly recommended.

Really packs a punch
This thing really packs a punch. If there is one downfall it is that it is not USB-C and it is a litte bigger than I expected. Overall the thing is sturdy as hell. I have used it regularly walking my dog at night and I have not had to charge it yet and it has been about 2 months so far.

Was capable of charging once. Now it won't do so anymore.
I bought this light for work about a year ago. I didn't really ever end up using it, so it only ever got charged back to full once. After the first charge, it refused to charge again. The light indicating that it's charging still goes blue, but it doesn't seem to mean anything. After 24hrs on the cable, once removed, the indicator light still flashes red as if it's about to die. Don't waste your cash, fork a little more for something of quality. This item has been reduced to a paperweight after several uses. Won't be buying Soonfire again.Edit: I see now that the price has doubled since I purchased mine. This light wasn't worth the sixty dollars I spent, let alone twice that price.
