Can I set to individual colors and not have them changing constantly?

Absolutely. I ended up buying six of these lamps for my outdoor accent spots (and three more for backups in case one fails, which after three+ months of a Chicago fall/winter they are going strong). To replace the white and color halogen lamps I used for the holidays. I personally do not like the color changing or flashing, so I have each lamp either set to solid white or an individual color for the holidays. And the nice thing is you only need one remote to change any lamp. Since they are sold in three's and I bought nine, I have three remotes!

Remote doesnt function at all for light installed in pool. No on/off, colors or effects. Do these remotes not work for ones in pool?

Mine are used for uplighting landscape and work great. Maybe the water interferes with the signal. You could try putting the remote in a waterproof envelope(sandwich bag) then getting within a foot of the light to see if that works.
