Manufacturer Exceeded Expectation After Board Warped
** EDITED AND REVISED **I originally gave the product a 1-Star negative review (see unedited text below), and was utterly stunned to receive a hand-written (!) note from one of the company founders who had read about my experience and wanted to rectify it. He explained that there was an unforeseen tendency for boards, produced around that time, to warp due to improper storage. He assured me that the issue had been resolved and offered to send me a brand-new board. I am thrilled to report that I have been using the board for longer than I was able to use my original board, and it is in PERFECT condition. It is an exceptionally nice product, and I'm really thrilled by the PERSONALIZED, truly authentic customer care I received. (Even though I had written the nasty review below!) Bravo to Virginia Boys Kitchens. I am officially a lifetime customer.Original 1-Star Review:Seasoned this board as directed. Have even used John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream. Washed by hand, carefully, per directions. After less than a month — as was the case with some other reviewers, I now notice — this cutting board WARPED and is suddenly unusable on our slippery marble counter. I tried numerous methods to retrain the board and, while all worked at first, the board goes back to its warped state within 24 hours. VERY disappointing, and surprised by all the positive reviews, which encouraged me to buy in the first place. I wish I had read some of the negative reviews. Caveat emptor, I suppose.

It's a really beautiful board, but heavily flawed
I want to preface this review by saying how much I really wanted to love this board. It's beautiful once it is seasoned and the size is perfect having a large area to work on, whether for prep work, dough kneading, or even carving meat. However, the production quality really soured the experience for me. Once I did have the board seasoned (and I seasoned it, both sides, multiple times over several days using Boos Mystery Oil and Wood Cream) the issues quickly became apparent. As noted in another review, the juice grooves are not sanded. This wasn't a deal-breaker for me. What was a deal-breaker is that right after the first use, the surface of the board started splintering. I was wiping off tons of fibers from the surface just drying the thing. Those fibers would have easily made it into food if I hadn't done something about it.That was annoying but I figured it was a good opportunity to get some sandpaper and smooth out the groove and edges. I sanded down the surface with 220 grit sandpaper, reseasoned it, and the same thing happened two washes later. I figured maybe I hadn't done enough, and proceed to sand and season it yet again. The board was fine for about 3 uses this time until it started to offer more splinters while being dried off. On top of that, despite having hand-dried it every time I used it, it started warping after two weeks of use. The board will not sit flush with my counter and rocks while it is being used.I initiated a return thinking I had just received a bad sample. It happens, right? I can't fault the company for a bad unit, it's the nature of production. The second board I received was shipped alone in a box with some packing paper on one side of the box (whereas the first was shipped within its own Virginia Boys box and had some paperwork). Right as I took off the wrapping, I immediately noticed several gouges on the board and a crack running over an inch on the bottom.Like I said before, I really wanted to love this board and I was excited to have it in my kitchen. However, the following weeks of use and inconsistency in quality across the boards were major letdowns. Maybe I'm unlucky and got two bad examples, but I am disappointed, to say the least.

The cutting board I always wanted
****IMPORTANT NOTE**** I've read a lot of questions/reviews complaining about the dull and untreated appearance of the board upon receiving it. THE VENDOR SAYS THE BOARD IS DELIVERED UNSEASONED! You need to season this board yourself. I personally use John Boos oil and cream (last I checked, Amazon shows these products as "Frequently purchased with - go figure"), and the difference is noticed instantly upon applying these products onto the board. If you're spending this much on a wooden cutting board - you should be taking every extra effort to care for it... and this means seasoning it. Monthly. Yes, monthly.

warped after one week
I really wanted to like this chopping board. The size was right; the material was right; it was highly rated. I spent a week oiling this board until there were no "dry spots" on the surface. (Family members were wondering why so much effort was being put into it.) After one week of moderate-to-heavy usage, I looked at the board today, and it didn't look flat. I Picked it up, and saw that it was warped AFTER ONE WEEK OF USE. (The attached picture shows that I am not being nitpick. It is actually significantly warped!) That is just unacceptable. The board was not run in the dishwasher. The board did not sit in any water (it is too big to sit in the sink). It was just used in a working kitchen. I know this board is highly rated, and I thought about exchanging it, but I am frankly disgusted by its poor performance, so I am just returning it to Amazon. I'm glad other people like their board, but I am going to buy something else.

Truly Stunning!
My extra large cutting board arrived today, and I'm very pleased with it. It seems well made, and once I applied the coconut oil following the directions, the beauty of the wood is stunning! I'm going to love having such a huge work surface. It is 18 x 24 inches. I placed a chef's knife and some veggies on it in the first pic to try to show the scale of the work surface, but it still looks smaller from the picture angle than it actually is. I'm looking forward to having a nice, heavy wooden surface for my bread making, too. Truly beautiful!

Cheap
This product broke in half due to water getting in the crack... it then snapped in half.. I realized the bird was glued together! It wasn’t even a solid piece of wood! Cheap, cheap, cheap.

A very nice quality board
A very nice quality board. I read the reviews and followed the sellers instructions by getting some coconut oil. As soon as I put the oil on, the color came out in this board. To be honest, my wife loves this so much she's not letting me cut anything on it.

Not as good as expected
First look , wow, then I used it , not smooth , so I thought , right oil it , looked lovely , gorgeous colour , look decent , used it , yep that’s good , then to clean , damp cloth only , no water thought this be best , then all went wrong , it sort of was rough , but fuzzy ( don’t quite know how to describe ) but rough, so thought ah! More oil , yep great then used again wiped damp cloth ( nearly dry ) the cloth was catching on the board. I was thinking this can’t be right , I read some other reviews , yep I’m doing this right but none said you need to oil it after every use. And even then it still felt rough , so sorry viginia boys I’m having to return this , ive tried coconut oil , olive oil , and wood oil , but for the money I would if expected it to be of better quality ,

Great natural product - love it
When I received I was a bit nervous around how the end result would look like after seasoning.Quick sanding (more because I fancied it than because it was needed) and then onto seasoning with natural coconut oil... after a few minutes, the board looked awesome... and with the confidence that it is all natural! It's been a pleasure using it since, perfect for the chopping, but also to present some snacks given it's great design.Would definitely recommend it!

Lovely durable chopping board
I received my chopping board and it came in just the right amount of packaging. It came unwaxed/oiled so i used unrefined coconut oil which really brought out the lovely dark walnut colour. Ive been using it constantly as i love to cook and im constantly chopping, slicing & dicing my meats, vegetables and herbs. I really love the juice groove around the edges which works well at catching run away juices unlike other chopping boards on the market. I find its a very good size too as were a family of six so i tend to buy large pieces of meat and they fit on with no problems. Its a very lovely chopping board and so easy to clean

I am never bored of this board !
This board offers a tactile, sensuous and even a visceral experience : yes guys, I know it is only a 'chopping board', and yes, perhaps I need to 'get out more often' !Nevertheless, it is often said that it is the little daily pleasures that gives us a sense of being alive. To that end, you will never get bored of this board !Please remember to apply pure organic coconut oil as often as you feel necessary - 'she' loves being oiled up and massaged, then you will have perfect 'wood' !Enjoy

Nice and sturdy
This is really nice and solid chopping board from good quality wood. It looks very qualitative and well made the only concern I have is a lack of WOW factor. Now when there are folding boards, boards with extra compartments and other bits and pieces - this is subtle and simple product for people who like classic things. It also came with some major instructions how to get your board ready and I had to buy some supplies to do so.
