The perfect beginners' guide to fashion drawing!
This book is extremely accessible, yet fairly comprehensive, and therefore the perfect beginners' guide to fashion drawing. What I've found very interesting is the intertwining of practical and handy suggestions with bits of the history and philosophy revolving around this subject. The different sections of the book give an exhaustive indication of the ideas surrounding drawing for the fashion industry, which could be claimed to be an art genre in itself. The book begins with a brief history of fashion drawing, from the sophisticated mid-19th century fashion plates, the exuberant drawing style of the 1920s and austerity of the 1940s, to the expressiveness of the 1980s and 90s. It goes on providing an overview of the variety of art supplies used to obtain the various visual effects connected to different fabrics and textures, and underlining the value and influence of the rendering and colouring processes in fashion drawing. The book continues explaining the essence and importance of the fashion sketch, seen not only as the expression of unique styles and ideas, but also as the reflection of the aesthetics, cultural and social values of a specific historical period. A big section is dedicated to this subject along with the process involved in creating useful and purposeful sketches the aim of which should be to record and finalise

Exactly what I hoped for
I bought this book for my 8-year old daughter who never stops drawing, to give her new inspiration and differents new ideas. The book looks perfect for the beginner, both with basic knowledge and more arty-farty drawings :-)I think she'll love it and look so much forward to giving it to her this christmas!
