Good quality little picker
Picker has nice wide jaws with a firm trigger action. It can pick up heavy items like a full 1-litre bottle of car oil. The dimpled rubber pads on the jaws grip well. The aluminium shaft looks robust enough and the handle incorporating the trigger is easy to grip. The trigger allows four fingers to grip it.The rear of the handle has a rubber inset which makes it easy to grip in wet weather.

No locks, built cheaply -- not like the old PicStik!
I just received the 32 " yellow PikStik and realized that it wasn't made in the same as my 32 PikStik that I've had for years. The new PikStik has NO LOCK! It feels too light in my hand and seems very cheaply made. The new one will be used in one room where I don't have to use a steadier PikStick -- just for light items up high. I opened it already -- can't return. It's NOT worth the $$ that I paid for this piece of crap. Have they stopped making the PikStick with the locks on either side of the handle? My old one locks in 2 positions. Photos posted with this are of my OLD PikStik. Anyone know where to find the old model?

Fell apart after a few uses. Avoid.
I received this item and initially was pleased with it except for the fact that it was supposed to have a lock on the handle that locked the jaws shut. My item did not. I contacted the seller via Amazon telling them that my item didn't have the lock on it that it was supposed to have. They responded back and requested the UPC number from the packaging. I supplied them with this information. They replied asking me what exactly the problem was. I told them (again) that the item didn't have a lock on it like it was supposed to that locked the jaws shut. They simply replied by saying they would request a refund for my purchase price but said nothing about whether I got the wrong item or why mine didn't have the lock it was supposed to have. Ok, then. I guess it was appropriate that they requested the refund because a day or two later I went to use the item and the claw on the end of the device fell completely off. As far as I can tell there is no way to reattach it. I can see inside the end of the aluminum tube that there is a thin metal cable which the claw attaches to. However, the metal cable ends several inches short of the end of the aluminum tube so there is no way to reach reach the cable to the claw. The other end of the cable is pop rivieted in place inside the handle so the cable can't be unattached and slid further down the tube to allow it to be reattached to the claw. The item is completely worthless now that the claw has fallen off. I contacted the seller again to see if there is anyway that I haven't figured out yet to perhaps fix this issue. So far, they have not responded to my inquiry at all. Seeing as the item fell apart after a few uses I wouldn't recommend buying this item. I'm guessing that since this item normally has a pretty decent review rating that they must simply have a quality control issue with their products. Either that or people who have left decent reviews haven't bothered to update their review for the product later if they have had a problem with it.

This Brand's Quality Has Gone Downhil
I have this same model from the same company, but about 10 years old, and the new one just doesn't compare in terms of construction quality. The old one felt sturdy and weighty in a good way. It had very strong gripping power and the fit and finish were all good. Has given me 10 years of quality service. But I used it outside a lot, and wanted a new one for grabbing things inside. So I bought a new one. This one is much lighter and just doesn't feel very good to use. The grip is weak in comparison to the other one, and the plastic handle has a very sharp edge that digs into your finger if you don't position your hand correctly. I'd pay more for a higher quality version.

I love this compared to the old blue plastic one
This replaced an old plastic PikStik of the same length that finally seized up after several years of regular abuse in saltwater. The aluminum version has much more precise action, feels more robust, and the rotating head is genius for getting around awkward geometries — something I've long been wishing for using the old one. However, I use this for reaching deep into aquaria, moving heaving rocks and delicate corals around. The rotating head and more secure and smooth action really help, but while the older plastic model picked up water, this one immediately fills its entire length with water. That complicates things, as lifting it back out again requires me to use my other hand to pull down the grabber to let the water out quickly or it dumps out of both ends. I doubt that's in any way avoidable given the nature of the design, but for you reef tank folks who use these things regularly, be warned that you'll need to get used to removing it from the water a bit more carefully. That said, I love this compared to the old blue plastic one.Now if they only made one this tough, with an angled adjustable head, and lower-profile jaws…2/18 update: lasted less than a year — not rustproof after all, with internal mechanism having some metallic parts that rusted through and disconnected the cable from the jaw mechanism. Saltwater not its intended use. Will be buying another one anyway, and will try to rinse with freshwater and dry it I guess.
