Good Ashwagandha Root, but the packaging isn't great. 🙃
This is a 100g pouch of Ashwagandha Root. It appears to be good quality. You can make it as a tea with hot water.Or you can make it with milk instead of water.Unfortunately this Ashwagandha Root is in kraft paper packaging. I really don't like this type of packaging. It can easily tear. I've repackaged it. 🙃I think that the current price of £7.77 is too pricey too. You can get it cheaper from other sellers.Apart from the packaging and the price, I'm happy with it. 😊

A rawer approach to Ashwagandha
I've previously tried Ashwaghanda as a supplement in capsule form to help with sleep. I actually found it quite effective, but if I took too much I felt it made me a bit groggy and tired the next day.The problem with capsule supplements is that you don't really have any assurance of whats in them, despite the claims on the bottles, so I quite liked the idea of this Ashwaghanda root - the raw, wild harvested version of the supplement. It comes in a resealable pouch with a best before date of a little under three years away. Its flakes of a woody looking kind of thing that doesn't really smell of much. I tried chewing a bit and it didn't really have much taste either so I tried making it into a tea by boiling in some water for 15 mins as per the instructions on the packet. I'm not a great tea lover generally, so the taste wasn't ever likely to be really up my street but I persevered in the quest for good sleep. After 15 minutes, a good deal of the water had evaporated and I was left with a brownish liquid that I strained into my cup. It smells a bit mushroomy - like the liquid left when you've soaked dried mushrooms. The taste is so much worse though. Earthy, bitter and generally unpleasant. My wife tried some but just spat it out into the sink and yelled some expletives. I didn't find it too bad. If you don't smell it as you drink it, its a bit better, but its really a case of down it quickly and give thanks when its gone. I can see why the capsules are more popular! So I wouldn't drink it for pleasure, but I've definitely tasted worse too.The following night I tried the milk infusion, 1teaspoon in a cup of milk boiled for 10 mins and some added honey. This was much better. It still looked like milk, had a much less stronger mushroom smell and the taste seemed more in harmony. Although it was much more palatable, I still wouldn't drink it for pleasure. It was also a lot more messy to make as boiling milk for 10 mins isn't the easiest cleanest jobI can't really say at this stage if I found it an improvement on my normal sleep, but perhaps it takes a few nights of use to take effect. I didn't feel extra tired the next day so I'm not sure it affected me as much as some of the capsules. I guess a problem is that its difficult to know the strength of the brew that you're making compared to the numerical statistics given for a capsule. So in summary, its nice to feel your taking the raw ingredient without wondering what other bulking agents may be included and I also felt quite grounded and authentic brewing my own tea! It is of course much more of a faff and takes longer to prepare than just popping a couple of capsules. The jury's out on what benefit it may have.It works out OK value though as you get enough for 20 servings in the pack.

Authentic
I switched from capsules to raw ashwagandha root for a more natural approach. The flakes are easy to brew, though the tea is quite earthy and bitter. The milk infusion with honey was much smoother and more enjoyable. While it takes a bit more effort than capsules, I love knowing I’m using the pure root with no additives. It’s also good value for the quantity provided. Perfect if you prefer a hands-on, authentic experience!
