Awesome!!!!
If you are interested in the Viking/Anglo Saxon period this is a book you won't put down untill you reached the last page. The pictures of the Enactors and their equipment is spellbinding! The text is short, but sufficient for a book of this size and accurate to the point. There is just one basic mistake, but I won't deduce a star for that since it's the number one mistake made by all books and documentaries about the Vikings: The term Vikingr does NOT mean raider!!! Once and for all for all of you who are interested in the Vikings, the term Vikigr means marketer or trader!!!!!!!!!! It's originates from the term "Vyk" or "Wyk" or "Wig" wich was the suffix to market towns. Hence the Viking name for York: Yorvyk, or the capitol of Iceland: Rejkavik, or the town in northern Germany: Schleswig, where the archeological site of Haitabu is to be found. These were trading places. The Vikings initally only attacked the christian settllements as an preemptive strike since the Frank emporer Charlemange had threatened to kill every pagan in Europe who would not convert to christianity!!!!!This book gives you a good clue about that above fact as it shows a map indicating the raiding and trading routs of the Vikings. And astonishingly, for some, it tells you that the Vikings rowed all the way through Russia and into the black sea to trade with Constantinople(todays Istanbul in Turkey). Yet they did not raid the pagan Slaves, who called them the RUS, but settled with them and founded Russia!!! Surprised? This book is worth every penny and should be part of the national curriculum for history! Highly recommended!

It gave good reference material. Similarly to the other titles in the Europa Militaria publications.
