Is it effective in removing cat litter odour?

I find that it is within a small area. Our cat litter is in a covered tray i.e. cat enters small "house" the floor of which is the cat litter tray. This is located in a smallish utility area and by maintaining a Neutradol in the area all the time we do not have any issues with cat litter odour.

Are these refills? Do they need a container or dish for use? Do they stain?

Each box contains a small pot with the gel in it. No need for a dish or anything. The only time that I had one fall over - due to placing it on unstable surface - I just picked up the gel no stain. Also they really work to keep place fresh but not give an air freshener odour.

How are these used and placed? How much area will a packet cover?

All depending on what area your trying to cover I use them for my living room where I smoke and 2 or 3 does that. For a larger area you would obviously need to add more
