Got so many compliments this hat

I soaked the cap in Oxy Clean odor control for a few hours and then washed it by hand unfortunately it still smells very strongly. The smell is one I have experienced before with dark wash denim jeans and I'm hoping the smell will air out just leaving it out. I might try letting it sit in the sun for a few days. I'm going to keep it and hope I can solve the odor issue.

It's such a cute hat, I hate saying this or giving it a bad review but it smells like ammonia and I can't get rid of it! I've tried washing with everything, spraying it, you name it, it still smells awful! And worse what if I wear it and sweat, then will the smell come right out again? Like in the middle of a music festival? Haven't found a solution yet, festival is in September... hopefully it stops stinking by then
