heavy, but rusts.
only had this for a few days...I tested it out, and I guess it was OK.. bread stuck to the sides..then cleaned it.. next day, saw what seemed like rust spots... not sure why..Guess being its 'cast iron' needs to be oiled every time.. I was looking for something easy to use and not have to clean it like a grill..

Pudgy pie iron
Arrived with broken hinge. The piece itself doesn't seem to have been formed well and that looks like why it broke there.I mean, I guess it's still usable maybe? Just not the way I wanted.I suppose I should try to find a more high quality iron, I just really liked the shape and size of this one.Rated two stars âď¸âď¸ since I guess i got two pieces for the price of one pie iron?

An eco-friendly choice for healthy sandwiches - whether indoors or out
Iâm all about healthy cookware, which is why I love everything cast iron. I used to own an electric sandwich maker with a Teflon-coated surface. Like with all nonstick appliances, the coating eventually begins to peelâno matter how carefully you use itâwhich either renders it unusable or requires replacing the plates (if possible). So, I decided to switch to cast ironâa long-lasting, time-tested, and eco-friendly alternativeâand this sandwich maker performed wonderfully. As with any cast iron cookware, proper care is essential. It should never go in the dishwasher or be cleaned with soap, and it should be well-oiled during the early uses to develop a good seasoning. What I love about this particular sandwich maker is its versatile design. Although itâs made for use over a campfire or grill, it also works perfectly on a stovetopâelectric or gas. I used it on cast iron hot plates, and it worked like a charm. It accommodates thicker sandwiches than many standard electric models and doesnât rely on electricity, making it ideal for both camping and home use. It toasts bread beautifullyâcrispy on the outside and steaming hot on the inside. There were a few minor design flaws: the cast iron halves align reasonably well but not perfectly. More notably, the locking loop on one of the wooden handles didnât line up with the other handle, making it difficult to close securely. I was able to adjust it by loosening the screw slightly, but this made handling the heavy unit more awkward and less safe. While I appreciate the two-piece handle design for ease of storage, the screws tend to loosen over time and require frequent tightening. A more secure locking mechanism would improve the productâs functionality. The wooden handles are another standout featureâtheyâre eco-friendly and far preferable to plastic alternatives. Beyond making sandwiches, the two halves can be used separately as small frying pans or together as a double-sided press to cook ingredients such as falafel, tempeh, bean patties, vegetables, and moreâbefore assembling the sandwich. Just keep in mind the final sandwich thickness when assembling. If a few of these quality issues were addressed, this would be an even better tool for making healthy, delicious sandwiches at home or in the great outdoors. With proper care, this cast iron sandwich maker could truly last a lifetime.

A must for cast iron collectors and campers too, but
The minus one star is for a couple reasons. First, this cast iron sandwich maker needs *seasoning* before using. Nowadays most cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned and ready to use. This sandwich maker is not seasoned and I don't see this needed product info anywhere.Second, the handles clip is too tight and causes the two sides to open up and not seal. *Note: there are workarounds, to not use the clip and/or make a clip that is a bit larger so it doesn't squeeze the halves open. The weight of the top half seals with the bottom half just fine without clip, but you'll probably want a clip for camp fire usage. The screw in two piece handles are strong and a good length to keep your hands safe from the heat. For the cast iron collector this is a fun one. For someone who wants to use right out of the box this sandwich maker could be frustrating.
