Would this be too messy for a 3 & 6 yr old on a flight? I have water reservoir brushes to limit paper saturation & spills.

I can get messy if the child uses too much water. A better bet would be one of Amazon's coloring books that use a "magic pen". My 3 and 5 year old grand children love them and there is no mess at all.

Can you use your fingers?

I suppose you could use fingers to paint with water. However a better result will be achieved using the included paint brush.
