It is a bit tricky. The top is sloping. You have to line up the attachment, noting where the vibrating element of the motorised part goes into the attachment. With a little pressure it should click into place. I agree it is not straightforward

Funny you ask that as I’d never tried. So, I saw this and went straight upstairs to see if you could. After some fiddling I discovered it pulls directly out. It has clips on both sides to hold it in place. Just be careful as you need to hold the side blades to pull. In short. Yes, you can empty the hair from the foil shaver.

Q: how does the slide switch work? it slides up but 3 is at the bottom, 1 in the middle and 2 at the top? also it doesn't seem like the blade moves

The slide switch is not a speed control. It is a length adjustment for on of the cutting heads.
