Q: If its cup-for-cup like sugar, then how does 1.2 lbs of Splenda sweeten like 10 lbs. of sugar?

I have found that 1 1/4 tsps = 2 tsps sugar in coffee. You can generally cut the amount of Splenda to about 1/3 that of sugar; you have to add in small increments and taste till it tastes right. Some ingredients sweeten or accept less sweetener than others. I hope this has been helpful. P.S. I never believe advertising.

It is safe for diabetics, BUT it is NOT actually calorie-free. The FDA allows companies to state they are calorie free if their products have less than 5 calories per tsp. Splenda has 2 calories per tsp and .5 grams of carbs. Converted to one-half cup, that's 12 grams of carbs and 48 calories; to 1 cup, that's 24 grams of carbs and 96 calories. You can google this information. I used to think it had only zero calories, but would feel lightheaded after pouring a lot into smoothies. The carbs caused the lightheadedness. Splenda is a remarkable sweetener. I am old enough to remember when it first became available on the market. It revolutionized artificial sweeteners. Just be careful with the zero-calorie claim.

Q: can splenda be purchased without maltodextrin added?

Splenda can't. But pure Sucralose, which is the sweetness in Splenda, can be purchased directly at Bulk Supplements. It's pretty high priced though. $110 for 2.2lbs.
