UniLink (TM SATA 2nd HDD HD Hard Drive Caddy Case for 9.5mm Universal Laptop CD/DVD-ROM Optical Bay

I got this to replace the CD drive with a laptop hard drive on Dell Optiplex 3050. Fit fine, though I had to remove the screws on one side to install the Optiplex's plastic part that holds the drive in place on the chassis. Not really a problem, the drive doesn't slip in the caddy and the caddy itself fits snug. Great product.

DOES NOT WORK The circuit board or pin out is incorrect no data or power will transferi have bought similar items that do work and this one was 100% defective - i missed my return window too, so i have a ten dollar paperweight - plug in a known good drive - nothing no power no data - take same drive and hook to a usb to sata adapter and it works fine- so the circuit board is dead or the wiring pin out is wrong - this is junk do not buy from this seller

It matched the DVD caddy I removed from the laptop, but the clear protective sheet on the back and even the instruction labels proved to snag on the internals of the laptop until I removed both. We're talking ~1mm of difference. The original drops in, literally, while this one takes some firm push, but it works. I haven't tried to fit the DVD bezel from the original caddy on, though I want both available for use, so I may just make one for the hard drive caddy. With the way it fits in the Lenovo, without something to grab on to, it's hard to remove (as expected since it requires firm pressure to insert).

I wanted to add one more SSD to this server I'm building but all my bays are taken up. Could have mounted on top of another SSD but I wanted something cleaner. I had to make new holes on my bracket (about 1/8" off) minor modification and it only has that bracket because it's installed in a server. Snaps right in and does exactly what I wanted. Now I have a separate system disk away from my raid array. And for only $7. Thank you.Any misalignment in the picture is because of my install... minor gap too because the drive I took out was slightly taller. But seriously, 7 bucks. And who's going to see it once it's in the datacenter anyways. :-P

This product does an excellent job of adding an additional drive and it comes with its own hardware and screwdriver. It's really easy to install and its a brilliant concept to replace a useless CD drive with a HDD or SSD. I personally added a 1 TB drive SSD because my HDD was having issues. I slapped this in the cdrom slot with my new HDD in less than 5 min and my computer was faster than ever. Hard drive sold separately of course.

I installed this caddy to add more storage for my laptop. It works great but the only problem was installing my old bezel from my laptop it broke one of the tabs.

It works well, as described.

A perfect replacement for a laptop DVD drive which was no longer in use, allows me to replace the HDD for an SSD and still retain the storage capacity by using the caddy as a second bay.Though it was cheap, it didn't disappoint in quality. Great purchase.

The plug on the caddy did not line up with the socket in the Laptop DVD bay. I purchased a different make from another supplier. Everthing on the new one fitted perfectly.
