Simple, clear and sweet! An inspiration to get folks out and drawing.
I love to sketch and always have a small sketchbook with me. I also have have some of Cara’s great sketches of our urban environment of Albany NY so I know she understands this process.Cara’s book is a nice way to expose others to the wonders of drawing, which don’t have to be complex or burdensome.I also loaned the book to my husband who is not an artist. He tells me that Cara’s book has persuaded him that he might become one. Through a few uncomplicated steps, the book helps the beginner learn the basics of drawing. Add a little color to the fundamentals, Cara says, and you can entice the artist within to come out and play. A nice inspiration for not only me but for my husband as well. Thank you!!

Great For Beginners!
I read a review that implied that these pictures were childish. Maybe so, but we have to start somewhere. This is a less intimidating way to begin using colored pencils, which, are quite different from using graphite. Hints on how to begin things, and knowing that one needs to start light is the most important information, and from there, you can add your own style! You might be surprised at how different yours might look from the author. It isn't meant to imitate the author, it is to get you to begin on your own. Practice and create your own images!

The instructions are clear, and I believe this book is very useful to any beginner who is seeking for inspirations. The projects are very much fun and easy to reproduce.

This book changed my views about colored pencils.
I like the simple instructions and the variety of uses with colored pencils. I thought they were pretty one dimensional until I read this book. I think with this book I’ll get more use out of my colored pencils and pull them out instead of letting them collect dust and keep them hidden as a last resort medium.

Perhaps for middle school!
I know pretty much everything in this book. I purchased it because it was colourful. Most books on drawing are more like text books. In today's market presentation is everything. However this book, information wise, is the basics on the basics. The one thing it mentioned that others failed to and I figured out for myself is to leave a section of paper blank to act as a reflection of the light source. I honestly don't know the age group the book is aimed at! Change the language a little and it could be middle school kids. It certainly would match the knowledge level, and possibly the illustrations. I liked the illustrations at first but at a certain point they became annoying. Annoying as seeing wonderful illustrations you can but hope to create. Basically for juniors interested in art.
