I accept some naturally occurring chemicals are dangerous (lead...!; arsenic ... !!), but those found in tea and coffee have not done any measurable damage over the centuries - China and India alone account for ~ 1/3 of the World's population and drink vast quantities of tea. Empirically therefore I'd conclude that you can ignore this as example of Californian overreach.
