The Ballad of Lucy Whipple Paperback – June 19, 2012

I love Karen Cushman's books and have read many of them. I absolutely loved The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, the characters were all so relatable and it was overall just really well written.

This was a good picture of life in a mining camp in the Sierras during the California Gold Rush. However, the characters and story didn't grab me. It would be good for a fourth grade class in California to read, as it goes along with their social studies curriculum. I would give it a good but not great rating for someone just looking for a good read. For full disclosure: I'm a grownup, not a kid. Sometimes I tend to be critical of books the kids like. This is a book for intended for kids.

Arrived in excellent condition. Looking forward to the read on the next sleepover.

This book is amazing. Such a recommended read for kids, especially less adventurous kids who like to read!

Enjoyed the setting. It was one of those books that I did not want to put down. It was an easy read.

I have enjoyed every book I have read by Karen Cushman. She combines excellent period detail with moving stories of challenges and growth. Her stories are not predictable. They are hard to put down. This author deserves the awards and medals she has received for her books.

Good condition

Young readers will learn about the gritty reality of the Gold Rush. At the same time, readers will see how California could take hold inside a person and change their life.

I like it as the book is a great read and reflects the movie very well also it was deliovered in good time and in good condition

An interesting story dealing with some delicate topics. Eldest granddaughter loved it. It's a pity the film isn't available on DVD, despite some shortcomings.
