OK purchase but know it is delicate
Update:Go ahead and buy this unit. Just understand the quality and only attempt something that stresses it once all boards are fully assembled on a horizontal surface and screwed in. I should have known something was up when the package showed up marked as Fragile! :)I changed this review from 1 to 5 because the customer service people at Whitmor are actual humans who want to give the customer a good experience. They were understanding of my situation in this exact case and also that the instructions didn't make it clear that the thing needs to make it past step 6 (screws in the side boards) before it can be moved. In this instance, I didn't have enough space and had to move it before the critical "screws" step. The dowels are apparently just there to somewhat hold things in place till the screws anchor it all Only the vertical side boards (same material) are intended to take the distributed weight of the unit. Every force must only be straight down. For example, even with it glued, there is no chance of it withstanding a lateral force. In the end, we agreed both parties could have done better. They let me keep the somewhat mangled one and sent me a new one. I can use them for light weight storage where they won't be bumped by anything.I'm happy with the compromise.------------Original:—--------The panel board needs to be much thicker and higher quality. The unit barely stands up to its own weight. The dowels provided are too short and not large enough in diameter for the task. However, the holes drilled are large enough such that there is wobble and only about 2-3mm of particle board supporting the dowels. Also, the particle board looks more like a sponge than wood.To top that off, it seems the varying position of the pre-drilled holes side-to-side on the panel boards also applies to the angle the holes are drilled. It seems they used the hole to dowel size difference to handle the horrible drilling tolerances. The unit collapsed, breaking nearly every dowel, the first time I tried to move it to put the “top” on. Re-drilling holes, and using glue to fix all the places the dowels broke through the panel boards is a nightmare. If this shelf ever gets together, it will be a slanted eyesore that can only hold about 1lb per “box”.I never expect Whitmor to be great quality, but they do tend to make it to the assembled state before falling apart.

Easy to assemble
I have never built something easier in my life lol. That is a main factor for me when ordering stuff. & It is very sturdy too. def recommend.

Nice when done but hard to assemble
I do like the cube now that it's done but I had to put together the inner part laying flat and then get my girlfriend to hold it while I put one of the sides on because they require screws in that helped keep it together. That was the only part that was difficult is at first nothing wants to stay together until you get one side on and it screwed and it keeps it tight. We will probably buy another one and I am glad that I know how to properly assemble it now

Perfect... if
I love these things. I've used 5 sets to make a two-level guinea pig cage with a play yard, another 3 sets for pet supply storage, and 3 sets for business files storage in my home office. Note: multiple sets provide a ton of storage (more than a multiple of 6 because of fewer outer walls). Let me address two issues other reviewers have correctly pointed out: First is the connectors. It is true that by themselves, the connectors will not keep the unit together. A simple fix is to use zip-ties. I use them on ALL connections and therefore can lift the entire structure from any direction without it falling apart. They're cheap and I just snip them off and replace them to make modifications as my needs change. You only need the smallest size zip ties that cost less than a penny each. Next is the capacity. It is true that the cube bottoms will sag under a lot of weight, but it has to be quite heavy for that to happen. If this bothers you, just be sure to have enough cubes to disperse the weight of heavy items over several cubes, if you do, this won't be a problem. i hope this helps!

Great for organization
Slightly difficult to put together because of the small dows used to lock the shelving together, so the help of another person might be necessary for repositioning, but once all the screws are in place, it feels pretty solid so it can be manipulated easily. It performs well. I have no complaints.

Deceptively difficult to assemble, and no spare pieces
I don't want to blame a product for my own lack of experience building things, BUT I've assembled cube organizers like this before & had no trouble. This one is held together with wooden dowel pins that seemed rather flimsy to me. In fact, two of the long dowel pins snapped in half while I was assembling the product. There are no extra pieces included, so this already would've made the shelf impossible to assemble until I somehow found replacements. (This, too was going to be difficult, because the instructions do not include actual measurements for the pieces, just the specific number Whitmor uses to label their parts.) I then noticed that one of the dowels had snapped such that a piece of wood was wedged in one of the pre-drilled holes on the middle divider shelving piece. It could not be extricated by hand, with pliers, with a drill, or by any other means i tried - it's stuck in there, blocking the hole and making completion impossible. I filled out Whitmor's online form for replacement parts and was told I will maybe receive a response in 10-12 business days, which is extremely discouraging since I planned to have this built and my room put together in a way that is sufficient for classes, which are starting in 5 days. Even then, replacement parts are not guaranteed, so as far as I know I've spent $50 (cheap for this product from what the other reviews are saying, but no a small amount for a college student) on a pile of poorly-finished wooden boards.I've never actually left a review on something before, but this is just an unprecedented amount of trouble to have stemmed from one tiny piece of wood. Experienced builder or not, it's a bit disappointing. Like, it's my fault for breaking the piece, but it snapped EXTREMELY easily, and to have no spare pieces in the kit when the pegs are apparently very breakable is a strange choice. If all goes well, though, and you don't need a single spare piece, I'm sure the product is fine for the price.
