The screw breaks the wood when tightened enough for it to hold the platform. Either the wood is too dry, the screw wasnt placed in a predrilled hole, the screw isnt long enough for over-tightening not necessary or its just a bad batch. Take care when buying this that you will likely crack the wood before youve even screwed it to its initial tight position and ought to take the screw out and pre-drill before placing it back in to ensure no cracking to happen.
