Believe: A Pop-Up Book of Possibilities

I have 10 of Robert Sabuda’s popup books. I bought three of Believe to give as gifts. While the popup designs in this book are marvelous, the pages without a popup have indentations from the popup pages that distract terribly from the beauty and message of this book.

I have most of Sabuda's popups. In this he returns to his roots of designing in all white, which I preferred over the glossy Reinhart years. The book consists of an inspirational saying starting on one plain page and finishing on the next in a sophisticated pop-up such as a field of sunflowers or a castle. Yes it is the most basic of inspirational thoughts but sometimes that is what a person needs. A graduate might appreciate it, but a person who has forgotten their passion may be reminded of a lost dream. I wondered if the author had been through a time of trial and if these were the thoughts that kept him going.As far as the pop-ups go they are classic Sabuda: complex, complete, sophisticated. For a person just learning about the artist this is a primer of his approach. For a long term fan there were no "wow" moments, "just" the usual appreciation of an artist I admire...but no boundary pushing. For Sabuda it is a "safe" creation....another reason I wondered if he has been through a life crisis. If that is the case I hope this is his healing and a warm-up for a...not return as we can't (and perhaps shouldn't) go back as we are changed by life...perhaps a re-creation of his art based on who he is now.I overstep my knowledge in speculating on the background of this piece. He has given me many moments of delight over the years and I hope the best for him and his artistic passion.

Such an amazing talent! Robert Sabuda is amazing and the book, while simple is so beautiful that it is worth the price. My students LOVE his books!

Sabuda books are intriguing for any ages.

This book is a work of art. It inspires anyone who has the privilege of opening it. The artist who created this magnificent piece is a true magician. My only criticism is that the center page is hard to open fully but I think it just needs more careful handling. My granddaughter will have this memorable book for the rest of her life & be able to pass it down to her own children!

This isn't as good as The Night Before Christmas, but it's still good. The text is very simple. The pop-outs are good but again aren't as good as the Christmas book. The text is to simple for a 10 year old. They love the pop-outs though.

I have all of Sabuda's pop-up books, including some commemorative ones. I think I might like this one better than any of the other Sabuda books, with the exception of the white Christmas books. This has simple but complex pop up mechanisms, an oxymoron I know. But once again ,the white pop-up style is stunning and the topics are sophisticated enough for adults as well as children (to read to, not turned loose on 😁).Robert is a master paper engineer and an incredibly talented artist.

I'm a long time fan of Robert Sabuda, and have most of his pop-up books - many are now not available. The message is simple in this one, and highlighted by all the artwork in white. Sometimes I think his white pop up work is the best; this one is beautiful, as is the message.

a beautifully made book with complex pop-ups. in my opinion, it is more for adults than for little children.

It's become her new favourite. She thought it was amazing and was like "wow" at each page turn. It's delicate, so not for kids to be left alone but something she will treasure and that will delight.

This is a great pop up book for an older child , my daughter loves it .
