HAPPY CATS..HAPPY PEOPLE..HAPPY SALES!!!
These Bonito Flakes are absolutely delicious and both my cat and I snack on them right out-of-the-bag every day! They arrived in perfect condition (large thin flakes that have a very fresh scent, proving the flesh was sliced when it was firm and just-caught). I have decades of experience with canning, smoking, freezing, and preparing dishes with West Coast albacore tuna, which is akin to bonito. I was privileged in the 1970's to cook for the 2-man crew of a unique schooner/troller that was set up to long-line these fast and spectacular fish 200mi. off the Pacific coast. That fish was gutted and cleaned right on deck and put in the hold to quickly chill it. The resulting product when fish are respected in this way tastes and smells nothing like "commercial" store-bought tuna. (The closest thing I've found is Costco's Kirkland brand.) These flakes are the "real deal" and make wonderful broth, soups and many other Asian and Polynesian dishes. Just melting a few yummy flakes on my tongue gives me an immediate protein rush when I come in out of the extreme cold weather we've had in the GA Mtns. (of all places) and my comical cat races up&down and all-around with each snack. I do have one caveat though: If you are spoiled w/ Amazon Prime like me, do order early and give it an extra week to arrive. This is a bargain @$8.29 w/Free Shipping if you are isolated away from the luxury of specialty stores, etc.. Also, just so you know, I trust Japanese food products and would not have bought this product from another foreign country. HAPPY CATS!..HAPPY PEOPLE!..HAPPY SALES!

Neko Atsume
I got these for my cat after playing Neko Atsume. Like, I am leaving fake bonito flakes out to lure fake cats into my yard in that game, but I haven’t given them to my real cat yet? I’m lucky she still loves me.She recently switched to a prescription diet, and some of the flavors are not as palatable as others. A sprinkle of Bonito flakes, and she eats every bite. 10 out of 10 recommend for fake and real cats alike.

Great for Kitties!
Sometimes my Kitty turns up his nose at some flavors of wet food. With costs increased as much as 30%, I really can't afford for him to be so wasteful. A pinch of flakes on top has been great at stimulating his appetite and getting him to finish his food. This is a great package size; large enough to last a few months, but not so large you need to figure out storage solutions. (I did transfer contents to an airtight container, as I live in a humid climate.) For multiple kitties the 1lb packages may make more sense.Mostly large flakes, but I do see a bit of powdery bits. Bits on wet food aren't so much an issue for the Kitty, but I think generally that's considered a concern for people who cook with bonito flakes.I have a piece here and there on occasion. It tastes like a fishy bacon. A little salty, smoky, very umami. Not something my palate is accustomed to, but I didn't buy it for myself!

Purrfect for all ..~!~
We have tried 4 brands of these that I can think of , making this one the 5th ,..I think that this one is perfect , taste wise, no overly fishy smell or taste, and the best no added salt { no need } but some do..I think this out of all is my personal favorite...Both for the perfect breakdown , it is meant to go from a powdery into a more solid sliver of fish..Not meant to be chewy , and these are not..Purrfect...~!~Update : July 22 , 2013As I have run out of these flakes and waiting for more to come in.. I've tried to find an equal..I found one in a bigger bag , same delicious taste..Those go for about 2'xs the price of these { Marutomo Katsuo @ 16 oz. for $ 26.15 ) they are pinkish -red and keep the same consistency to the bottom of the bag { like these } and are the very best..If you chew a piece and it is slightly tough { chewy , too chewy } , or a little bit salty check out this brand ..I love to eat these right out of the container , with a couple pairs of eyes staring at me..Of course I share..~!~

My Cat LOVES this!
A good friend and cat owner introduced me and my cat to Japanese Bonito Flakes, the first time I gave them to my cat I watched him lose his mind as he inhaled his portion. I have caught him a couple times get into my cabinets and try to open the bag of Bonito flakes; he likes them that much. It makes me feel good to give my cat something that he really enjoys.

Cats love this as a food topper if they need encouragement to eat
This bulk bag is a great value compared to the smaller bags. I just divide it into smaller bags, toss them all in the freezer, and take out one smaller bag at a time as needed. Sometimes my cats need encouragement to finish their canned food, and a little of this tuna as a topper does the trick.

Excellent Quality At A Good Price.
This bag of Japanese Bonito Flakes is enormous, although light as air. I ordered two bags, not expecting that the bags would be quite so large. However, this is a very good quality of Bonito Flakes, and they will all be used and enjoyed. This brand delivers a very finely-shaven quality of dried Bonito. Both of my packages were filled with large shavings, there was practically no breakage, and there was hardly any flake "dust" in either of the two sacks. The smell is exactly as it should be, highly pungent, highly fishy, very stinky. This is one of the two building blocks of much Japanese cuisine, the other being Kombu, a form of sea Kelp. When these Bonito Flakes and the Kombu are used together, they form a lovely and rich stock which is the base for Miso Soup, and so very many other Japanese dishes. This product is a lovely quality and I recommend it.
