Carey III Plastic Kite Winder and Reel

My hobby for years is kites and kite accessories. I gave this bobbin winder a good tryout. Believe me when I tell you that you DO NOT want this winder! It is a pain in the hands if you are bringing in a kite from far out on a long line. Do yourself a favor and purchase one of the nice reel type kite line winders you see on Amazon. You will find it much faster and easier to bring in your kite with a reel type winder and the prices are comperable and reasonable. I have found no better than the reel type winders and therefore, the kite flying experience is much, much more enjoyable. Hope this helps. Happy kite flying!

We purchased an inexpensive kite from a big box retailer (9' Delta Conyne) and the winder / spool it came with lasted about two outings before breaking... leaving us with a decent kite but a desire for a better winder / spool. This product filled a requirement to provide a more durable winder that's basic and simple enough for our kids to use with a reasonable cost (under 1/4 of what we paid for the kite itself).It took about 10 minutes or so to transfer the string from our old broken winder / spool to the new one (only because it didn't come off the broken spool very fast), but the investment in time was likely worth the savings in cost.Spool is wide and has ample guides. It's long enough to pull the kite in fairly quickly (quicker than our old spool) but not so long to be difficult for the kids to use in moderate winds. The handles feel sufficiently sturdy and lend a confident feeling to the winder / spooler.Overall, it's not as elegant as a wooden / metal / ball bearing winder, but it's inexpensive and up to the job.

The design is perfect, it's simple to use, and easy to attach line to, along with holding a large amount of line.

Seems good enough. I still like my wooden one better.

Having a 100ft tail on your kite is one of the best things you can add, especially a stunt kite since now you can sky-write. However, rolling that long a tail up is a major PITA. Until now. This baby reels it so fast, I get giddy and laugh with glee every time I use it! Because I remember how tedious it was doing it by hand.The Carey Winder is a plastic "H-shaped" reel with 2 black handles in opposing sides/positions, and the reel itself is probably 4" wide, plenty for reeling up a tail. They originally sold them for reeling in kite lines, but I had a spare one and began using it to reel in a 100ft tail that was very tedious. IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!! I can reel that tail up so fast I have to actually be careful not to snag it on field weeds and tear it!
