George Washington Carver: The Peanut Wizard (Smart About History)

GREAT FOR KIDS
This was a very nice way to tell the story of George Washington Carver's life. It was easily understood by my grandson (who is 8 and in 3rd grade) and the pictures are perfect for elementary school age kids. The information contained has been very useful for his current school project and checking with Wikipedia the book is amazingly accurate even though written at his grade level. A great book!!

LOVED THIS BOOK
I loved how this book was written as a child's science report. It gave my 2nd graders a connection to their reports. I think it would be AMAZING if more books could be written by Laura Driscoll about more historical figures! Write more please!!!!

Great Agronomist
This book did an excellent job, for young readers, of describing the life of a great scientist. At the least, it should encourage young children to read. In addition, the book is written in such a way that it may inspire some children to study hard, and maybe even instill high ethical standards in a very few.

Offended by certain wording
This is a cute book but it seriously downplays the brutally of what George Washington Carver went through while being raised in 'White' society. However it is a children's book so instead of saying that the 'white' people who raised him did indeed castrate him, it says that even though they were slave owners (someone who owns people ), they gave him a caring home. What an oxymoron. My kids did appreciate the pictures. If I could have viewed this book before purchasing, I would not have purchased.

Interesting
I liked the book - bought it for a school reading for In2Books project. There were some contradictory statements - but overall - a good read about a good man.

Such a good way to teach about America's finest
For my son's first grade curriculum, I had to teach him about George Washington Carver. This particular book was a great introduction into who George Washington Carver is and how he impacted life in early America. It is also a great example of an in depth history report!

Kids love it
I love the way this book is written. The kids enjoy reading it, even though the we knew the information in it. It is pretty basic review of GWC. We ordered the States, Presidents and Chocolate books (Smart About...) after reading this one. Very enjoyable.
