Standard Horizon HX290 Handheld VHF Marine Radio, 5 Watts

I am updating my previous review of this hand held VHF radio in which I rated it poor. After returning the radio to Standard Horizon for its intermittent working, I was given a replacement at no cost (other than my shipping cost of the original). In fact, I received the replacement in just one week. The new radio is working great. I was impressed with the speed of replacement. Thank you.

i have spoke on his thing one time so far and it blew my mind. in my house (high power) i talked to a boat over 5 miles away loud and clear. we use these in heavy duty tugboat marine use and beat them around like a bull dozer and they keep on ticking. they are worth twice what i paid. was there a mistake in the price. $119.00. i'm getting another before they change their minds and find out they are the best in the marine business. our older 270 didn't float this is a little deeper and well built.

I produced this product for my vessel as a backup, due to the size and compact. I friend also purchased this same product and he's very satisfied with it as well. I would recommend this product for purchase.

Having had really good experience with the HX280S for several years, I decided to purchase another to have a back up. When I could not find the HX280, I thought the HX290 would be similar, but it is not. The HX290 is much larger with a larger battery, but does not hold a charge as long as the HX280. I now regret my purchase of the rather bulky HX290. I don't know why Standard Horizon discontinued the HX280S, but it was a mistake in my opinion.

Easy to use. Great signal strength. I use it instead of the one mounted at the navigation station to hail friends and marinas. Just much more convenient at the helm if you don't have a repeater up there. Good audio quality. Unaffected by outings in the rain or spray coming over the coach roof.

in my opinion, this handheld radio is perfect for any one who owns a boat. The reception seems very good. It is built great an appears very durable. It comes with everything in including a belt clip and charger. I am veruy please with this product and would highly recommend it.

Its ok radio kinda had a heavy battery for a radio but it last long time, pay more and get the one with GPS
