These didn’t need to be purged of air
I wanted to be the first person in the country to post correct information : NO PURGE NECESSARY! These are shipped with vacuum, not pressure. The long story, a journey through misinformation: In my area of Lawn-Guyland Ny I called 15 propane fillers and half never heard of purging and the other half freaked out and said they don’t have the ability to purge new tanks. According to the interwebs, tanks come pressure filled with 100psi and must be purged of air and moisture before filling. 2 corporate propane suppliers in my area made it seem as though purging was like dealing with nuclear weapons and they refused to do it. They were unable to explain how they could sell me new, filled tanks, but made it clear that they could not purge new empty tanks. Both companies were shocked when I pointed out that RV campers have 2 of these tanks hanging off the back of the vehicle, on the road, with other vehicles. Both were also shocked that I bought the tanks online, shipped to my door. Old people lol.Eventually I spoke to a propane supplier that actually knew what he was doing and he explained that some tanks are filled with compressed air and some are emptied by vacuum. Vacuum meaning that there is no air, no moisture. Vacuum tanks can be filled because there is no air inside. He told me check before wasting my time trying to get the tanks purged of air that might not even be there.A little science folks: I installed my regulator to the empty tank and put my finger over the hole where propane would normally come out of. My finger was sucked in to the regulator, not forced out, therefore the tank had vacuum. End of drama.Tanks were shipped on sturdy boxes with handles, no damage. Paint was good but their welding is sloppy with many tiny weld blobs on the top of the tank which only makes the tank look ugly.

Good tank
Recieved the tank with a portion of the round base ring dented in, seems to be a common occurrence with these from the handling through the shipping agents. Not a big deal as its fairly thin steel and can be beat back out to get the round shape again. As far as the tank, seems to function just fine, but as mentioned previous it has to be purged by who ever fills your tank for the first time. You may want to check with you propane provider in your area before you purchase if they are set up to do this for you.A note on the price, being there was a $40 discount promotion if you signed up for a Amazon credit card at the time of purchase, was the main reason I bought it here and saved a few bucks. I did see the same tank sold at Menards for around $70+, can't remember the exact price. The tank itself would be 5 stars, but with the base ring dented in, and really no fault of Amazon, rated the whole transaction at 4 stars because of the usual poor care and performance of the shipping agents now days. Maybe Amazon or who ever packed it could have done a better job, but I think you could pack something to where it was 'bomb proof' and the shippers will still somehow manage to damage it...

they offered to either replace the cylinder with a new one or refund the money (typical excellent Amazon Customer Care)
Re received a brand new tank with a recent build date. I purchase this to use on my new BBQ and it is much nicer than the 20Lb tanks you normally see. The only reason I gave it a 4-star is because the item arrived damaged (pick-up handle area bent). I contacted Amazon Customer Care and since the item could not be returned due to it being considered a hazardous item, they offered to either replace the cylinder with a new one or refund the money (typical excellent Amazon Customer Care). Because only the handle area was damaged which did not affect form, fit, or function, I elected to keep the bent cylinder as I wanted try out my new 40" BBQ grill. After about 4-mths of use, the tank is going strong with no leaks or other problems. A vast improvement over the small 20lbs tanks and lasts 3-4 times longer than the 20-lbs tanks.

Good deal for the money but is it really "Made in the USA"?
Tank arrived on time as promised. Well packaged and it's a good thing as the box was rather war torn. Once I pulled the tank out there was no reference to being made in the USA in the form of a decal or placard, however "USA" was stamped on the handle area adjacent to the manufacture date. Very high quality enamel finish and good quality valves. It looks like the manufacturer just took two 20lb tanks and welded them together. Welded seam quality and workmanship was fair at best. I just wish a tank of this size came with a quantity/pressure gauge. It's used to power my Champion 9000-watt dual fuel generator when dry camping in the RV.

Just the right size, big enough that I don't ...
Just the right size, big enough that I don't have to refill it often, and small enough that I can handle it and transport it in the back of my Jeep. I bought the plastic tank foot, keeps it up right and stabilizes it during transport: Mr. Heater Tank Foot, Fits 20-Pound, 30-Pound and 40-Pound Cylinders to Stabilize Tanks I have used it many days it with a large Mr. Heater and it still does not need refilling. My initial fill cost me $30, just a $8 more that it was costing me to replace my 20 lb tank

Needs better packing on the Valve end
As one poster stated; my tank arrived in similar condition.. The valve protector handle was smashed down on one side and I had to pry it back up. All they did was throw it into a cardboard box and close it. A better way would to use a foam block around the valve end; but I guess spending another $.25 to keep it from getting damaged from being thrown is too much money..It does the job.My suggestion is check your local hardware stores. Lowe's showed them out online and yet when I was able to finally stop by; they did have the 100 pounders in stock.. Another 40.00 and I would have had one instead of this tank..

Great tanks
Love these tanks, I use them to power my dual burner blacksmithing forge and they do a great job. Not much else to be said, however the tanks themselves were very poorly packed prior to shipping. When I received my boxes, just a small slither of tape was keeping the box from completely popping open. There was some loosely stuff paper, and that was it. Just about useless. To my surprise, there was very little damage, all that happened was a small ding in the foot of the tank.Had packaging been better, I would have readily ordered more.
