Works well!
The media could not be loaded. This is super easy to use, stirs well, heats quickly, and is easy to store back in the box. It’s small enough for easy storage.I found that it heats faster, boils in less than 30, if using a container with a small mouth such as an Erlenmeyer flask. If using a wide mouth beaker, it will take quite a bit longer. It’s sturdy, works well, and was well priced.

Inexpensive and Works Well, Lasts 3+ Years
This product lasted in our chemistry lab after daily use by multiple people for just over 3 years. After about 40 months one was no longer heating up and the other is showing signs of end of life, so we're ordering replacements. Great value. Not great control/accuracy over the heat, but you get what you pay for.

Gets hot, not warm
My main issue with this unit is the method used to set temperature. I am familiar with the usual designs used for adjusting intensity of heaters, lamps and other resistive loads having designed them myself. This has the same issue that many low-cost dimmers have in that you cannot set the temperature (or intensity) to a value below a certain point. Starting at OFF, turning up the control results in nothing until a certain point is reached, then suddenly it begins to work and the heating/intensity can be finely adjusted after that point. Starting at full-ON, turning the intensity/heating down drops as expected until a point is reached, then it turns OFF abruptly. But the unit is low-cost and if you are not in the situation of having to set a specific low heat level, then it may not be an issue. I would have been happier if the threshold point were lower since I did need to have some warm heating. My second issue is that a finer thread or different alloy for the thermometer holder clamp would be nice. After crunching down on the clamp screw, the arm holding the thermometer was still not rigid enough to hold the thermometer in one place. Finally, a protection ring around the heating plate would help prevent accidental burning if a person happened to move their hand laterally across the table and touch the rim of the hot plate. But these are all 4-star features and with an evaluation system where the vendor is guaranteed one star, making this a three-star rating is reasonable to me. If I planned to use this often enough, I would pay more and get these features. Since this was for showing an on-line schooled child some cool chemistry experiments, I am happy with this unit. It does the job I wanted, has worked the 7-8 times I need it, seems to be well designed beyond the above comments and the price was right.

Works great! Heats up fast & keeps fluids moving
I use two of these for electroplating. The plates head up the chemicals to 130F in a decent amount of time when set to 100% power. As you turn the power down, I believe it just 'pulses' power less and less. That said, it does indeed turn the temp down. With a little trial/error I can eventually find a setting that'll keep my beakers at 130F solid. The speed controll for the stirrer is pretty wide range. I'm able to make it turn slow enough to avoid a vortex in small beaker...or turn it up to stupid speeds and get a vortex spattering mess. Very happy overall, which is why I have two!

Better than my Nirecore - Great for mixing e-juice!
Use this for e- juice steeping and mixing. I love the increased mixing speed and temperature options that it has over my Nitecore. You will need either a laser thermometer or a thermometer that you can attach to the included stand as there is no digital display for the temperature. I went with a very reasonably priced laser thermometer that I purchased here on Amazon. So far this has been great!

Didn't turn off heat when heat knob was clicked off
So this was new out of the box and I set it up and plugged it in. I turned the heat knob to on and adjusted it to the lowest setting and tested it with my thermometer gun. 135 F but fluctuations between 123 F and 135 F when knob is stationary. Then I went midway between the max and minimum which is almost all the way to the right and got 225 F -235 F. I detected a smell coming off the plates at this temperature. It is definitely off gassing a chemical. I cranked up to max to see how hot it tops off at. When it reached 300 F I smelled the chemical odor very strongly and then I started to see white smoke. Fearing something may be overheating I decided to kill the test. I turned the knob off and heard the click and the red led light turned off. I then went away for 30 minutes for it to cool and then reexamine the machine. When I came back and placed my hand across the top to pick it up I heard a loud sizzling sound. My thumb was seared like a steak to the plate. I grabbed my thermo gun and read 483 F. First degree burn on my thumb. I recheck the knob to make sure it is off and turn it back on and back off again. I recheck the temperature and still 483 F. I then flip the kill switch on the side to the circle which should mean open circuit. Nope it is still on 483 F. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. The unit I received is faulty from the manufacturer straight out of the box and extremely dangerous. Thank God I came back to check on it or everything in my house would have been burned down to the ground because this surely would have caught fire within the hour.

“This is chemistry: Degrees matter!”
Procured from a private Amazon Associate*:Temperature proves difficult to control, even with use of a thermometer. Laboratory glassware buffered by a sand bath recommended (naturally) to reduce risk of sudden catastrophic failure when heating liquids to-and-above 100-degree Celsius. Thermometer stand can be an obstacle while erected when main unit is in-use.Decent for students who are beginning to learn chemistry or for basic mixing jobs, yet one should consider a higher tier plate-mixer for precision with complex mixtures.*Amazon Associate failed to include necessary power cable, had to procure an alternate, suitable cable from office-supply store. To avoid extra expenditure, as well as have a warranty, buy direct from the manufacturer.
