Textile Traditions of Chinchero: A Living Heritage: Tradiciones Textiles de Chinchero: Herencia Viva Paperback – Illustrated, June 1, 2012

This is a great reference book on the Peruvian weaving (and cultural) diversity. It brought me back to my roots (I left Peru in '74) and makes me yearn to visit El Centro De Textiles Tradicionales de Cuzco and spend a couple of weeks studying with the weavers and spinners. For the weavers out there hoping this will have drafts in the book - it does not. This is pure eye candy - and history! And the eye candy is delish!!

I had a chance to work with Nilda in Peru - she is wonderful and so is her book. The book gave me a good background before I went to Peru.

Fascinating history of how a small group of people was able to revive traditional spinning, natural weaving and dying based on historic patterns.

Very well written history of Peruvian weavings. Beautifully illustrated. Gives good design ideas for weaving projects. Bilingual text is interesting and provides a fun place to decipher Spanish if you are a primary English speaker.

A living heritage indeed, and hopefully one that will be passed on to generations to come. The most exquisite weaving and spinning with the most rudimentary of tools - a level of work I will never achieve despite state of the art equipment. These crafts people are born to produce wonderful textiles. This book is a must for textile lovers, if only to teach us to be a bit more humble about our own meager productions!
