Classic CTR With Modern Features
My favorite part of this new Crash Team Racing is being able to set the game to "Classic" in adventure mode and play the game like the original CTR on the Playstation 1. In "Classic" mode you still unlock all the characters and stickers and vehicle parts as you play, but you don't get offered to "Customize" after every race. You also get to play with the original difficulty slider through the adventure mode, meaning it scales from Easy to Hard has the game progresses; the new format does not do this and makes you select a single difficulty for the entire adventure. The number of tracks and characters is awesome. Featuring every track from the original two titles, completely upgraded visually. You will not be disappointed with the amount of options and customization you have, and when you first start you will find yourself unlocking items very consistently. You wont have to get an hour in before you start getting the goods, they throw them at you after almost every race if you place high enough. The AI is my main problem with the title. That being said, I have yet to find a cart-racer that has solved this problem. In Mario Kart, the game is balanced by item drops. Characters in the back will get more items that negatively effect leading players in a bid to close the gap. CTR, however, uses classic "rubber-banding" to slingshot a single AI hyper-fast to your position instead. This typically happens immediately when the 3rd lap starts, and the AI can get a character from 10 or so seconds behind to less than 1 before the race is over. This can make the game feel extremely cheap. You can be a quarter of a lap ahead and watch a single character break away from the pack and catch up to you. Honestly, I haven't seen rubber-banding this bad since Tradewest's "Championship Pro-Am" on the Sega Genesis. That is not to say that the AI makes the game bad, or detracts from the fun. If you could win every race by a half lap there would be no point in having AI anyways. It's just a very strange option to take when it comes to competitive AI in 2019.The multiplayer is the hottest part of the game. It really brings me back to the classic days of couch parties. You can play 4-player split screen races, and you also have the option of taking the game online; which is a fantastic addition. I played a couple online races and the net-code seemed relatively stable. My only other complaint is the fact you can buy the in-game currency to unlock items. Any time I see a company do this I know they nerfed the amount you get in game to entice you to pay real money for it. While I would rather they only had in-game currency with no ties to real world money, I understand this is a way for them to continue adding content to the title. Whether they actually make good on adding content will be for us to see in the future.Overall, this is a solid pickup. payed sub $30USD for it and have gotten loads of enjoyment from it already.

The classic game with new customizations and courses!
I was a big fan of Crash back in the day, and CTR in particular. Needless to say, I was very excited for this to be released and we preordered it as soon as we could. My husband, friend, and I spent hours playing this once it finally arrived. It’s got the feels of the old game, but also features new courses, characters, and character customizations. They did a great job of giving this game the old feel. The timing of jumps and boosts feels the same as the game from 20 years ago.Adventure mode is just about identical, and completely identical if you play classic mode. Or, you can play nitro fueled mode, which gives you the option to change characters, skins, or karts at any time. As you progress, you will unlock additional customizations and characters.Battle mode has multiple different options. Theres the classic “last kart standing,” plus capture the flag, steal the bacon, time limit battle, and crystal grab.Online mode is a fun way to test your skills against fellow players. Of course, you need a PlayStation plus account to access this feature. We have really enjoyed playing this game so far, and so have our kids. We look forward to the many hours of entertainment it will provide in the future!

Fun Family Time
My husband got a Logitech racing wheel for Christmas and I wanted to load him up with racing games. This was not it. It’s not compatible with the wheel, but we did find out it was a lot of fun.It reminded us of a game we loved when we had the DreamCast. Space Race. It’s just a lot of fun to play with the family.Everyone has the opportunity to have a fun character and pick out their vehicle. Once that’s established, it’s on to the race! The load time was a little slow, but the game was fast and fun. You can pick up trucks and traps to launch on your fellow team mates to slow them down. Now is you chance to get ahead and win the race, but watch out for their explosions and tricks! They can launch traps on you!

A blast from the past
One of my favorite games remastered from my childhood and now I can play for the nostalgia of it. The Crash bandicoot games are awesome.

I can't say that this game is better than the original, but it's good
Let's get this out of the way, the loading time is just unacceptable for current generation of consoles. I'm talking among the levels of PS1 loading time bad. There's some neat additions to this game. Great customization, characters, and more unique tracks with the original tracks from the PS1 game. The reason why I say that this game is not better than the original is because of the smoothness of the original when you played a race. You just drifted so much easier in that game. Maybe I'm doing something in Nitro fueled that is preventing me to enjoy the game some more. The drifting just seems more complex than it has to be. When I drift I have to also pay attention of the road, so when I drift do I want to go faster with the nitro boost, or do I want to watch to oncoming obstacles? It's a struggle to get it down right, but when you do it's kind of rewarding. The online multiplayer is hard to comment on, I barely make it in time before the race ends. I'm always like in 6-8th place. I like the battle mode in online multiplayer better because it's more chaotic. They could have added like an elimination mode type of thing in battle multiplayer where a team who takes out the other team first wins. That would have been so much fun, but maybe in a future patch? Hopefully. Seriously the loading time needs to be fixed and less than it is now. That's not acceptable at all especially on current consoles. I would say wait for a slight price drop, but it's just a good game. Nothing exciting like it was back in 1999. Kart racers was the craze back in the 90's and thats just a genre that only Nintendo could still do right in the current modern era. This Game only perfects what it has done from it's initial release in 1999 on the ps1 with some great additions added to the whole game.
