Panasonic KX-TG4742B DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Answering System, Black, 2 Handsets (Discontinued By Manufacturer)

I've had many Panasonic phones over the past 30 years. It is the only brand I trust for quality and customer service. The last one I had was KX-TGA402. There was no back light and it didn't have a speaker ID. I could never see the caller ID when I was on the phone with some one else. After a few years it stopped ringing in one room and I didn't want to purchase a range extender which Panasonic does sell. The back/lit panel is the largest and brightest I've ever had. About 1.8 inches by 1 1/4. Even with the light off you can read the date and time very easily. The key pad has larger than usual easy to press buttons. So easy to set up, it really is a breeze.It takes 7 hours to charge but I received a phone call within 30 minutes of setting it up. The phone book and everything else is set on all 4 phones with just one entry. The answering machine is loud and clear and so is the caller ID when the phone rings... The manual spells everything out very easily and clearly.. I did have one question about entering my greeting. Customer service answered quickly and was most courteous and helpful. My husband has a hearing problem but he has no problem with this phone either listening or hearing the phone ring.. The volume control is on the side which is very convenient compared to pushing a button to see the bars expand while you're talking. I checked Panasonic online before I purchased this. It was the only Dect 6 Plus that said NEW so I assumed it would be the most advanced. Amazon was also about $11 less than the retail price. Another helpful feature is that there is message counter lit in bright red so when the phone is off you can always see how many messages are stored. Another plus is that when you have a Voice Mail message there is a 1 1/8 inch bar on the top of the receiver that flashes on and off (the indicator light). You can't miss it. There will be a lit message on the display that you have Voice Mail waiting for you.. If you have entered your VM phone # in your phone book just click under VM and Voice Mail will automatically be dialed for you. This light also flashes on and off for an answering machine message. I've never seen this feature on another pnone before-- if you are in another room other than the base you can listen to your answering machine messages on any handset in any room!!! I am so happy with this phone. I can't recommend it highly enough. I am adding this information a few days after installation, as it is not included in the instruction booklet on page 32 as it should be. If you subscribe to Caller ID this is important to know. When you refer to caller list - the name, date and time appear but not the caller's phone number. This is the first Panasonic phone I've had where there was no number. I called Panasonic and they told me to press the right arrow on the Navigator key which is the large black button with the 4 arrows. The phone number will immediately appear. If you press the left arrow the caller list appears but without the phone #. I hope this is of help.August 29,2012 update. I'm still extremely happy with this phone, more so than ever.UPDATE: MAY 21 One of my handsets stopped ringing. I called Panasonic at 1 800 211 7262. The rep courteously walked me thru the repair. Click on menu and then pound #. Press in 160 and it said volume OFF. I used the up arrow and made the ringer as loud as possible and then pressed SAVE! I just saved alot of money as I thought was going to have to purchase a new handset.

I gave this 4 stars as I believe there is always room for improvement. Ordering, delivery and packaging, 5 stars. The item arrived in 3 working days after the order was placed. The price was excellent for 5 phones. I ordered this particular phone for the following reasons as my former Panasonic 5 handset system needed new batteries and I decided to just buy a new improved system instead of purchasing new batteries. The batteries for this new system when they need to be replaced are not expensive like the old systems batteries. The KX-TG4745B has #1 Large buttons, #2 Large display, #3 Holds 70 numbers in the address book. (most only hold 50) This new system is so improved over my old Panasonic model. It was extremely easy to program. I needed the manual as there are codes to get to a particular area. The manual is well written. I like the block feature, my old Panasonic had this as well. Today there are so many telemarketing calls and I find this feature very useful. Another great feature is that you only need to program 1 phone and the other 4 handsets are automatically programmed. The phone also has a volume control on each handset. I haven't used this yet as it hasn't been needed. The phone calls are very clear. I haven't tested how far the phone can travel before it loses the signal but it is very adequate for my needs. There is also a headset feature if you need it. I haven't used this but I can see where it would be very useful for some. I purchased this model over the new cell/telephone model where you can incorporate your cell phone calls to come in on the landline. I didn't feel I needed that feature and that model didn't have all the features listed above. I read all of the reviews on this phone and a couple of others and chose this one. I am very happy with the purchase.Where I think it could be improved is that you should be able to program your numbers in the address book like cell phones where they actually hold an endless amount of names and numbers. I don't see a light on the phone or the base unit to let you know that one of the other phones is in use. It displays it when you pick up the phone and says "line is in use" That is a very small complaint and I can certainly live with that. All in all, It is an excellent phone.

We have had this set for quite awhile from Amazon. It has turned out to be wonderful. My only complaint is that "blocked" calls, when that number rings, will ring once. I wish it didn't ring at all. just leave the message "caller blocked". But it is a great feature anyway. Recommend, good delivery and price, as advertised.

Please attach convertors with the adapters as they damage due to the difference in voltage. And the caller id of the phone also doesn't work.

great phone, the answering machine sometimes does not record well but I don't know if the problem is on my end or the caller's. good buy

Just got this phone few days back......keeps saying base no power.....I am sure there's solution to this problem but it is irritating....in India this comes at a huge cost.....did not expect this from panasonic

EAR PIECE HEARING VOLUME NOT HIGH, ITS TOWARDS LOWER SIDE ..... DEFEATED THE PURPOSE FOR MY MOTHERS EAR, .OTHERWISE WISE FOR NORMAL PERSONS GREAT SET
