I had previously purchased an RX A-2000 from Amazon. It worked well for a couple days and then wouldn't power on. Amazon, being the stellar folks they are, took it back and refunded my money. Thanks Amazon!After deciding to give the Aventage line "one more try", I ordered the RX A-3000. The quality and features are 'impressive' for lack of a better word. Powerful, clean, and vivid sound. I'm running a 7.1 speaker setup with Klipsch main speakers and Aperion Audio center, surrounds, and sub. I'm no audiophile, but I can't imagine it gets too much better. I can crank it up enough to piss off the people in the next block...and the sound remains clean. ;>)The LAN and iphone controls are also a very nice feature set. With the receiver at one end of the house, I can stll control the sound in my office and bedroom.The video section is fairly amazing also and, though I haven't yet a 3D TV, reproduces BlueRay on my 58" plasma with incredible resolution, and upscales old DVDs to be pretty damned close.This unit will be getting a workout as I have found Rhapsody and have it running 24/7 in my home. If you haven't used it, for 10 bucks a month, you can listen to nearly ANYTHING you can think of. I've been amazed at the availability of obscure stuff I haven't heard in 30 years.After doing as much due dillegence as I could, given the recent release of the Aventage line-up...I'm quite happy with this unit and have come by the opinion the the failed unit I returned was likely a fluke...I hope.If I had to find a negative about the unit...and I'm happy enough with it nothing really jumps out at me....I guess more thought could have been given the layout of the remote. No biggy.Enjoy!

Worth every penny
This is the third Yamaha receiver I have owned and it replaces the 6.1 channel receiver which is still an awesome receiver used for over 10 years. The only reason I retired it as the main receiver is the lack of HDMI connections since that was not a standard 10 years ago. You just can't go wrong with Yamaha receivers. They sound awesome, power great speakers without the need for pre/post amps, and can run at full volume without distortion assuming you like your ears bleeding and a pounding headache that follows. This particular receiver has a unique feature which is that it shows a digital image of a forest scene when you have selected an input that nothing is connected to. While this is certainly nicer than pitch black nothingness, it can be a concern for someone who is running an LCD or plasma screen that has not been burned in yet since static images like this can cause etching on some screens. While leaving the room, I simply turned off one of the appliances that was on the current input which resulted in the static forest scene appearing but I did not expect to be on the phone call which had me leave the room for the hour and a half it took. When I came back to the living room I immediately worried that this static image may have been burned into my plasma screen but I was lucky and it did not happen. I looked through the guide and clicked through the on screen control panel to see if there is away to turn off the static image but I did not find one. Other than noting this one tiny issue, the unit has lived up to and surpassed the expectations that previous Yamaha units have afforded me. I am running two subwoofers in opposing corners of the room and 2 center channel speakers, 2 front channel, 2 front channel surround, 2 rear channel, and 2 rear channel surround speakers for a simply awesome surround sound setup when watching movies that make use of all these channels. When watching standard TV like football it uses less channels but still enough to make it feel like you are there in the action. I am completely happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who lacks a good receiver. Let's face it..sound is everything. I have a 65" 3D plasma TV and as pretty as it is, the surround sound is so much more important in terms of your overall movie watching experience that if I could only afford one purchase I would keep my old 32" analog tv and buy this Yamaha reciever. The sound immerses you in the action despite the size of your TV, but even if you have a beautiful large TV yet lack good surround sound, the experience of watching a movie is flat. Sound matters. The ability to plug in the microphone and then move it around during the setup of the receiver while it plays test patters so it can automatically configure the best sound fields for your viewing/listening environment is a definite plus for anyone who makes their living room into the entertainment room rather than having one specially built around that purpose. There are ample HDMI ports to run everything you could need, DVR, TV Receiver, XBOX 360, PS3, Blu-Ray Player, and more. The on screen display allows you to program your input selectors and other necessary items with ease and for me without reading the manual. I am completely satisfied with this purchase and expect the same long life of the other two receivers which are still in use 18 years later for the first and 11 years later for the second... what more can you ask for?

Solid Performance, Outstanding Features
I have had this receiver installed for about 3 weeks.It took many trips to the internet to find out how to activate various features. It was worth it.I am very happy with all the input options.I installed a wifi bridge to the ethernet input and the receiver notified me there was a firmware update available. Afther I downloaded the update, Pandora was added to the network options. Awesome.I use the multiple zone outputs. Great functionality.I have a very good set of 5.1 speakers. The 140 watt output will be adequate.The remote is good. I don't think it is overly complicated as some have reported.The receiver is supposed to have HDMI pass through. It does; but only for the input that was selected before you turn the receiver off. This is an important problem for less technical operators.
