Bite-size tests, especially good for kids whose attention wanders... My Yr5 teacher son thinks...
This is a book consisting of 15 tests, with texts on which several questions are asked. Some of the reading material is non-fiction (e.g. Henry VIII, The Moon, Magpies, What Is Yoga, etc.), some is fiction (e.g. The Wind In The Willows, The Railway Children, A Stormy Day, etc.) and some are poems (e.g. Bird Poems, From A Railway Carriage), with one play (Macbeth), so there's a good variety, and they're mixed up nicely. Questions vary a little in difficulty, but you have the text to refer to, and a separate Answers section at the back. It's what used to be called Comprehension when I was in school in the '70s, and it's laid out in a non-cluttered way and in English that's easy for the age-range to understand. This is a book of practice material, i.e., to get kids in the habit of doing this type of test for the KS2 SATs, not specifically learning material, though of course children will learn from what they read and do.From my Yr5 teacher son: It is a basic book but some of the tests will make kids think a little more than others (the first two are the easiest, but they can be done in any order). For the price, it's a decent way to practise skills needed for KS2 SATs. The 10 minutes that each test takes is enough for kids to focus on and attain the solutions, without them getting bored or distracted.
