As expected but dangerous
This is a high power diode with an invisible beam. Yes, you can see a red dot at the focal point but the actual IR luminosity is hundreds if not thousands of times more intense and you can’t see it. Safety goggles are a MUST with this diode. When focused it will make a piece of wood smoke at 10 feet. Don’t shine it on a reflective surface and like I said wear PROPER safety googles — NOT sunglasses.THIS IS NOT A TOY

PERFECT for fixing a broken vive lighthouse, shoddy documentation.
This was a perfect replacement for a dead laser on an HTC Vive lighthouse. It fit great, and didn't cause any clearance issues. This diode came wrapped in a lot of bubble wrap, so finding it broken is the least of your worries. Finding documentation was hard for this, and I don't even remember where I ended up finding it. I just did trial and error touching wires to the pins until it turned on. Soldering was a breeze though, and the laser has worked flawlessly since installing it.
