Barbapapa's New House Paperback – January 1, 1978

I like the fact that I found the book but I wish there would've been more details about the shape of the book. It is taped together to hold the cover on. Also if they're going to sell it for twenty some dollars they should take the $1 sticker that they paid for it off the book. A little disappointed.

As a child I found Barbapapa's Ark at a bookfair and fell in love with it. I have been trying to get the other books for years but they're rare, usually not in great shape, and sell for a fortune. I was so happy to see the re-issues, though they have to be shipped from England (usually). Wonderful ideas of getting along, keeping the world pleasant and lovely illustrations.

I searched high and low for this book...for years! I don't know what happened to my original copy but I loved this book. When my brother saw it at my house he told me it was one of his favorites as well and also ordered one.

I remember this story from when I was a child and remember it being one of my favorites. Not sure what my mom did with our copy? A great story about being flexible and joining together in teamwork for the greater good of all.

We got this book when I was very young and it was an instant hit with all of us! This book was extra special since we had 7 children in our family too! It was so nice to be able to imagine having your own room and having it just the way you wanted it. And to be able to become anything was an even better thing to imagine! I think this book is very instrumental in helping young ones learn to use their imagination! Very highly recommended! :)

Just combine French culture, these cousins to Shmoo, and ecofriendliness, and you got the Barbapapas! "Barbapapa" (French) means cotton candy, or, literally, "father's beard". (Hey, I'm just givin' the facts here.) Barbapapas are animals that can change their shape. Some examples: a swing, an umbrella, a wheelbarrow, a devil, a tent, an elephant. Very handy. The parents did procreate,and they had a litter of seven Barbababies: (Barba)Beau the artist; B.Lala, the musician; B.Belle, the beauty queen; B.Bright, the scientific one; B.Zoo, the animal lover; B.Bravo, the jock, and B.Lib, the bookworm. Oh yeah, and sometimes Frank and Cindy, the humans, come to visit. The plot: The Papas realize their house is too small. Frank tells them about a house that they can squat in, so they fix it up, only to have it torn down by Big Brother Builders. The new apartment that is offered to them is depressingly cage-like and uniform, so they escape the polluted, barren city to the fresh air of the countryside. Since they can change shape, Papa becomes the mold for the Barbaplastic that they use to create their new abode. Life is good with outdoor baths, gardens, and singing birds until the wrecking ball and pals pop up again. The Papas fight back with wads of sticky Barbaplastic that they use to only thwart the wreckers, not destroy them. Peace, man. They end the evening with the Barbababies' birthday party. My daughter loves this book, and so do I. What can I say, we are weird. Copyright 1972.

I remember this book from my childhood, and I love reading it to my kids now! We've borrowed most of the other Barbapapa books from the library, but this remains my favourite - and both my 2yo & 6yo love it too! If only I had the time/creativity to make them their own toy Barbapapa house! (I think the fab Playing by the Book blog tells you how.)

I read and loved this story as a child and still have the original book. I decided to buy this for my daughter (5) to protect my old one. It is a lovely story, so glad they have decided to publish them again. My daughter loves it as well.

A childhood favorite, was so happy to find a replacement for the one I lost!
